I didn&#39;t get finished before I ran out of time. I used an old piece of 1&#34;×1&#34; angle iron I found mangled in a ditch. I think it had been a marker of some sort and got hit with a tractor mower. Angle iron makes a nice feather shape because when you pound it flat the center ridge looks like the rachis. I used a hot cut chisel instead of an angle grinder so it took longer to make, and that&#39;s why I didn&#39;t finish. You can see where I used the new fullering chisel to begin marking the vanes. I&#39;m wanting to make some feather style j hooks for the chicken coop but all I have now are either cold cut chisels or hot cut chisels. I needed something that was essentially a hot cut chisel that was rounded over to act as a very thin fuller. Something that would make thin lines but without cutting into the material too much. I&#39;ve been wanting to use some of these new style railroad keeper springs for a while. It occurred to me that rather than using coil spring these are already flat and in a chisel shape and don&#39;t really need much drawing out at the end. Plus the extra mass and length will be more ergonomic. You essentially have a ready-made chisel just waiting to be straightened out. The only problem I ran into was the fact that the material is so big none of my tongs really held it very comfortably and it had a tendency to bounce around. That&#39;s why it looks a little rougher than what I would have liked. Even though it&#39;s just a tool I would have preferred to get it smoother but with no good way to hold it well I decided it was good enough. I&#39;m definitely impressed with the shape and mass. In my past attempts at welded basket twist handles I wasn&#39;t pleased with the length of the hanging hook, so I cut the rods and inch longer and welded them that extra inch on one end for more material to draw out the hook. <br/><br/>Upsetting the ends of the faggot weld and the handle stem really helped for making the jump weld.
