Talk to them, ask their opinion on various topics.

4) Vote.

We tend to not care about elections, until it becomes too late to care about elections. And FOSS projects are no different.

For years we have very low attendance in Fedora Council, and only slightly better attendance at FESCo.

Thus, #Fedora people, please pay attention. We are entering the new Fedora election cycle and you should take a look at it.

https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-elections-nominations-open-april-24/150255

Fedora is a community-driven project sponsored by Red Hat.

By writing news like "Red Hat presented Fedora KDE Edition" you do not just misrepresent the Fedora Project, you also undermine the effort of Fedora community members who did all the work to make KDE Spin into an Edition.

Please do recognize and give a credit to the community.

And if you have questions about Fedora governance, we are here - at discussion.fedoraproject.org, at release parties, on social networks, just ask

#Fedora #KDE

When discussing digital independence, keep in mind that it works differently for proprietary products and FOSS.

To achieve independence from a proprietary software or service you need to _get out_ - stop using it, create and switch to an alternative.

To achieve independence with FOSS projects, you need to get _in_ - invest resources (human, infra,.. not money) in the project and its ecosystem, so that it becomes yours.

This discussion is far from done, but I am glad that we are recognising the value of FOSS and collaboration on the development tools, not just the content being developed.

For many years it was easier and faster for me to search for a man page on the web than to read the man page of the command in the terminal window.

Formatting was usually better, links were clickable, there could also be useful stackoverflow questions in the search output... Local docs became mostly irrelevant.

Nowadays web search is no longer the answer. Getting to click through 15 ads and a cookie banner to read a man page? What personal data you could possibly need from me there?
