You kidding? Not practical? Think of how much money it costs to collect fares! You need fare machines, and your lovely politicians will be investing in the 300,000 bucks electronic plastic smartphone surveillance machines, rather than a 50 dollar ticket punch. You have to pay for people to check tickets, and catch any fare dodgers, and that's a dangerous job since people don't appreciate "You have to pay $500 for having one bad day," so you have to pay extra to goons who can rough your passengers up. You'd be losing passengers who couldn't pay, or didn't like being roughed up by your goons, both of whom are a huge drain on your city's resources as they struggle to have basic needs met, and can't get to work or go shopping. You have to pay for people and computers to record ticket sales, and to do card transfers. You have to build at least one ticket booth.

The vast majority of fare collection schemes barely break even, and even when they make a profit, it's like 1% of the money you need to maintain and operate public transit, so the rest WILL have to come from taxes.

So yeah, you actively DISimprove public transport services, when you waste time collecting fares. The only reason to do it is to remind people that they're worth less than rich people, every time they grimace at yet another fare hike you were forced to do by these trying times. Far as I can tell, at least.

The thing about tyrants and slavers is they crave finality. They beat you and that's that, and nothing can change it, they think. They have you hopelessly in debt for instance, that means they won. The end.

Tyrants, I like to say, will always win. And then they will lose. Because ultimately their claim, their *demand* that their victory be eternal isn't reality. People can *always* fight back, and *will* always fight back. Wars are *never* won, and people are *never* conquered. Tyrants have some amount of time they can cling to power, but after that they're gone. Because everyone hates a tyrant. Everyone.

The only way for them to perpetuate the tyranny then is to convince you of the delusion. You believe you have to repay your debts, pay tribute to your conquerors. The reality is you only have to repay them while the cops are standing there forcing you to. Soon as they are busy elsewhere, it's not just your right, but your moral obligation to abandon your financial obligations. Repaying your debt is a pathetic failure, not a successful achievement. Once you realize that they engineered your beliefs, conditioning you to unconsciously enshrine debt repayment (i.e. slavery) as something noble and not vile, you start to feel like those women wearing burqas. You're no longer doing it because you believe women/people should be slaves; you're only doing it because you don't want to get stoned.

And the debt collectors do not have enough stones for all of us.

Just heard a story of a fellow who built a system for cleaning up server resources in Space Engineers. Players spawn stranded on a planet, so there's a planet created for every player. If a player dies, they sure aren't going to be signing on again. So he scripted a "black core" which would make a big bright explosion, and replace the planet with a "memorial" that didn't take up so much server resources. I think it was called a "Final Impact" just a frikkin inspired way to honor players who passed away. He also suggested that regular players could (with difficulty) get their hands on a "black core" but could only use it on their own planet, with the hopes that it would help people who were considering suicide could use it as a cry for help. Or help people rage quit the game.

Except he was stuck in a shithole country in the Balkans still oppressed by Russia to this day, and you fuckers rejected every attempt he made to leave saying he couldn't "provide proof of sufficient means of subistence." No one on the server suspected *he* was the one at risk, but one day he used one of his debugging "black cores" to cause a Final Impact, leaving only a note that the pain was too much, he was sorry but he couldn't take it anymore. He was never seen online again.

So fuck you, fuck your passports, fuck you for having a passport and participating in this globalist slavery machine. I get that the police are forcing you, but you're still a slimy shit for presenting it and feeling like you are doing the right thing, or you're "safe" from harm. It's alright to feel ashamed, but defend this border control shit, and you just condemned more innocent people to a meat grinder for your convenience. As I understand it, when you check out money from a bank in the USA, they promise to check out that money for you, but don't actually do it. Then you use that promise (called "bank currency") to buy things. The bank can't provide the literal Federal Reserve Notes, but you all got suckered into using your bank cards for everything, because ohh, that cash is just so crude, and probably terrorists use it. So you never notice you don't even get the pretend money the USA created. You get a promise for the bank to pay you, made of promises for the central bank to pay the government.

I programmed in python for a long time, but the python/C interface hid so many bugs. Mysterious segfaults with no way to tell on either side what was wrong. Did a brief stint with Lua but it's much the same thing, and has no good debugger to boot. D was great, until there was a segfault in garbage collection and all context for the segfaulting thing had already been discarded. Tried Go for a bit, but really I was looking for a language that was fast to compile and run, with as little inscrutable (i.e. undebuggable) "magic" as possible. (And yes python gets compiled.) So finally I found the language that was fastest to compile than any other language, and also fast to run, and didn't have a lot of bullshit magic going on.

That's why distros force systemd, because it's either required, or you can't use it at all. You might have better luck with a distribution that takes the second option, instead of trying to alter Debian and recompiling it all. Have you considered Devuan?

I think the slight increase in privacy of directly messaging matchmakers would absolutely destroy data miners and manipulators, even if it wasn't encrypted. Important thing is not just anyone gets to know that.

One idea I had for a communication network in fact was deliberate middle-manning. You middle-man between your friend and a new contact you recommended for them, so that new contact's exact identity isn't revealed to your friend right away. And they could use steganography, and multiple random middle-men to get the true identity across the wire. Like if we have three mutuals, who all know my key, I can send it to you through them, and unless they're all coordinating, you'll get it at least once.

So that's kind of like dating via a matchmaker middle-man until enough trust is formed.

Honestly a matchmaking (app?) technique on the Fediverse would probably work better than straight dating. You'd privately message the matchmaker with what you're looking for and some information about yourself, and they'd recommend people to you. They'd be in a good position to do so, since people send them their info, without having to publish that info for everyone to see.

It's funny because all trade unions tend to get taken over by thugs trying to extract power who don't give a fuck about the workers. The problem with police unions is the same as the problem with truck driver unions: they're only for police, and only for truck drivers. So they by definition are here to make things unfair in favor of their elite members. With truckers unions, they're up against the blackest evil corporations on earth, so Teamsters ends up mafia-run, but it still does good since it's making things unfair for pieces of shit who don't deserve to be spit on.

I like S6 as an init system, which Gentoo has really good support for. Been using Gentoo for a long while. I've also used Void Linux which is S6 based, but I don't know that it's an especially popular OS, so might be slow to update. (Really I only chose it because the Internet said Void worked on the Google ChromeBook I got for cheap.)

Haven't had experience with other distros, though I've heard some good things about Artix.

That's kind of why I wanted to make a decentralized currency system... thingy. Because bitcoin *is* slow and impractical. The entire blockchain takes forever to download, forever to process, and a significant amount of disk space. A single transaction takes an hour to add to the blockchain, an hour in which the value of whatever is being bought and sold may have changed! Your pizza will *definitely* be cold if you try to pay for it in bitcoin.

Which is why people started turning to the much more convenient "bitcoin exchanges," where you could own a certificate that represents bitcoin... and then everyone got ripped off and robbed repeatedly.

But money doesn't have to use a blockchain at all. I could (and did) digitally sign the first 100 numbers in the natural number set, along with a statement that any signatures of numbers higher than 100 didn't count. Assuming I then destroyed the private key, you could buy and sell those signed numbers just like any other commodity. So I wanted to make a system where everyone generates their 100 bucks, and whoevers is most reliable is the one everyone else uses.

But of course... you can never assume I destroyed the private key. So then we're back to money printing. But still no one can capture the money printing process that way, since everyone's doing it, and anyone inflating their currency will get dropped for others, so maybe it's a good idea...?
