This is a blend of polwarth, rabbit angora, and mohair, dyed with kool-aid, and the pattern is a custom toe up, princess sole with a gusset, some sole increases, and short row heels. They fit pretty well, but I spun the yarn thinner than I prefer, and next time I want more bunny fur in the mix. Worms are, if I'm understanding correctly, an invasive species in North America, and many ponds are man-made and stocked with fish. My second attempt at #sock #yarn. This is 83 grams of 12 wpi (sport - fingering) blended polwarth, kid mohair, and angora rabbit. I made rolags on my blending board. Next time, I will diz the rolags to predraft them. I've got it divided into 2 41 gram balls, a ready to #knit. It's a gorgeous, natural linen color, no dye, and soooooffftt! I can't even begin to describe my feelings right now. I have spent over 20 years learning various short row sock heel techniques, and haven't been quite happy with any of them. WHY didn't anyone TELL ME about afterthought heels?! If you can knit a sock toe, and do a basic graft, you can work this heel, and it looks exactly like a short row heel. "There was an old woman who swallowed a fly..." I've only lately come to realize it's not just a cute children's ditty, but a serious cautionary tale. The old woman did one stupid thing, and instead of accepting the consequences, she kept doing increasingly stupid things until she was "dead, of course." I voted no, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with trans people. I'm absolutely fine sharing the toidy with trans women. But having cleaned many public toilets, I'm unwilling to share with cis men. Gross. Pee everywhere, and it reeks. I've heard male cleaners say the same about women's toilets, so maybe we just don't like each other's funk. Plus, I'm not scared of trans women, but I damn sure am scared of cis men. Sorry not sorry.

I have only just realized that most yarn swifts are marketed to knitters and not to spinners, and this difference is important. Yarn is often sold in hanks, which need to be wound into cakes or balls before knitting or crocheting. This is easier than winding it into the hank to begin with, which is what a spinner does. I use an espinner because of my disabilities. I can spin in bed, which is great for me. I also use a support spindle for the same reason. Both are portable.

Turkish is support. The spindle rests in a small bowl in your lap or btw your thighs. I love spinning this way, although it can strain my shoulders. At first, you mostly "park and draft," but as you develop skill, you can draft while keeping your spindle going.

Vernor Vinge's Marooned in Realtime is one of the extremely few pre-2000 books written by a man that I can still read today without a hard cringe at the sexism. His A Fire Upon the Deep is also very good. Both of these are sequels, but I feel they're both best as standalones.
