if you're feeling investigative, I'd be interested to know whether anybody actually did the "a map with a growing red line shows the route taken" travel montage thing BEFORE Indiana Jones. It feels like something that they took from a thousand previous instances as homage, but I think they might have invented it. They certainly codified it. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TravelMontage lists a few previous instances (Apache from 1954, frex) but I dunno whether that's the same as the iconic Indy image.

sure, but the MPs are verifying themselves against their own personal websites, right? I mean, that's better than nothing, but it's not *that* hard to register kemi-badenoch.biz or whatever, if you're looking to fake people for a few days as recently :)

I agree it's like Parliament email addresses, but they already exist. Convincing them to set up subdomain verification for all MPs sounds like it willl take a while, so doesn't help now. (No reason not to start today, though.)

But I think the Venn diagram of "people who are famous enough that verification is truly important" and "people who connected enough to the tech team at their employer to get them to create a subdomain or DNS fiddling" is quite close to being two circles. It's very useful if you're me, or if you're an org rather than a person. But the institutional inertia required to get it set up if you're a journo or MP feels hard to me

HA HA HA HA HA HA I have found out why my iPhone iCloud backup was larger than 5GB but there was no way to reduce its size!

Turns out... if you bookmark a web app to your Home Screen then its data is included in your iCloud backup. This is very good! Nice one Apple.

But it doesn't show up in the "Backup Details" list of apps in your iCloud Backup settings, so you don't know where the space is gone. This is not as good. I shall file a bug.

Well, America, having just watched that debate, if Biden doesn't drop out, there will never ever be a better chance for an actual independent candidate to run and win and stop the two-party system, at least a bit. It'd still be shockingly hard for them to win, but someone who can galvanise real people rather than nutters (and everyone under 50) and credibly claim to be and represent the best of America... I think they'd be in with a real shout, here, if they do it quick and do it right.
