I mean I don’t think that we can’t collaborate effectively. Look at eg. accent colors, the spec that was agreed upon is not the one GNOME was in favor of, but we didn’t really make a big deal out of it and it turned out alright.

Some contributors have communication issues and in general, the project is pretty opaque, but I don’t think we need to change course entirely.

I think there is deep value to maintaining a project with the mindset that it’s going to be opinionated and “clean”, not something that has to work for everyone at the moment, but something that sets trends and dictates direction. That being said, I think people sometimes expect GNOME to accommodate their needs, and are left angry realizing that it won’t. This is an issue with our communication, and I want to hope that fixing it would be enough to resolve this.

The fact that the general consensus on #GNOME among Linux users seems to be hatred or distrust based on blind misinformation is unsettling. We really can’t just dismiss everyone as “trolls”. We absolutely need better public relations and coordination with the Foundation, because right now, we are letting bad faith actors dictate the direction of all discussions of the project.

I just released Sly, a local, open source photo editor.

I’ve been frustrated with commercial solutions and found the free alternatives too complex for my use case, so I decided to create my own.

This is the first version and a lot of things are still missing, but I would like for you to try it out so I can hear your thoughts on it.

The app is currently available for Linux and the web, with all major platforms coming soon.
