Under U.S. legal code, if you have a company, parent company, or subsidiary operating within the United States, then — at least in part — your entire corporate structure, including the parent and all subsidiaries, can fall under U.S. jurisdiction.

To put it in very simple terms: it doesn't matter where your home office is. What matters is that you’re, metaphorically speaking, infected with the “U.S. virus.” If you had any sense at all, you wouldn’t have come here in the first place.

Are Matrix / Element users going to be the new Proton groupies? 🙄

For months, I kept warning people that Proton was moving toward the United States, gradually updating their terms of service to reflect their new joint Switzerland–U.S. international business structure.

The little Proton groupies didn’t want to hear it. And recently, it was in the news that Proton was even cracking down on journalism — suspending journalist accounts. I don’t see that as a mere coincidence — especially after their CEO praised Donald Trump for his choice of staff members.

In before a Proton groupie shares a link to the blog site Medium and tries to pass off some opinionated blog post as actual news to "clarify" the situation. 🙄

I’ve correctly noted that Matrix/Element is within U.S. jurisdiction. Their own terms cite U.S. laws and explicitly outline that they have a U.S.-based subsidiary.

And just like Proton groupies — who remind me of MAGA trolls, always clinging to a cult of personality and blind faith — they’re not too happy when you point this fact out. And, again just like the Proton crowd, they’ll come up with every excuse in the book to justify ignoring this reality.

I have a whole list of open-source and closed-source options, both free and paid, so there's something for everyone. And all of them are outside U.S. jurisdiction.

But these fools really do remind me of MAGA trolls — because all they ever want to chant, and pressure you to choose, while ignoring the facts, is: "USA! USA! USA!"

First, find digital service providers that operate outside U.S. jurisdiction.

You should not trust WhatsApp — or Signal either. Both are owned by U.S.-based corporations, developed in the United States, and their messages pass through U.S.-based servers.

You’ll want to stop relying on Microsoft, Google, and many other U.S.-based providers. I've been working on a list, and it's a group project — so I welcome feedback and encourage people to make suggestions.

For example, the following alternatives to WhatsApp and Signal operate outside U.S. jurisdiction. They include a mix of open-source and closed-source software, both free and paid — so there's something for everyone:

Proton Mail Falls Under U.S. Jurisdiction

If you read their Terms of Service, at first glance, they reference the laws of Switzerland. However, because they now have offices in the United States — along with registrations, trademarks, copyrights, and patents in the U.S. — they also cite U.S. laws. The only two countries you'll see mentioned are Switzerland and the United States — nothing else.

Their CEO has, on several occasions, also praised Donald Trump. Additionally, Proton left the Fediverse because they couldn’t silence users there as they have on platforms like Facebook or Reddit. The fact that they’re now trying to silence journalists doesn’t surprise me.

There are better alternatives to Proton Mail.

You say you don’t want political violence? Then STOP preaching political violence!

I work for Meta (Facebook), and I see how often your kind calls for harmful, hateful, and cruel actions toward anyone different from you.

It’s not the single Black mom raising two children who’s calling for violence. It’s not the LGBTQ+ person — who just wants to be loved — calling for violence. And it’s not any of the many other people you seem to hate who are out there inciting it, either.

If any of them are starting to show signs of violence, it’s only because — after a lifetime of being targets of violence, both through constant threats and real actions — they’re finally giving back what you’ve been throwing at them all along.
