I've just come back from a lovely Sun Holiday that I was treated to by my wonderful other half. It usually wouldn't be my cup of tea, I've never really done them before but I enjoyed extending the summer and going somewhere new. I wouldn't usually ask because I gave up promoting my music on streaming services about two years ago, however I'm considering cancelling my streaming distribution and changing to a free model or just not at all, BUT... I NEED YOU, to stream and add my music to playlists and such on Spotify and Apple or whatever the fuck you use, because Distrokid won't let me withdraw my royalties until they reach $8, and they are currently at $6. I ended up just deleting my account, and just before I did I made a little empty account to keep my music profile up, which I might as well have not bothered doing, I never really use it.

I'm looking at it a bit like Twitter now, I'll keep my handles but leave the accounts blank, mainly for peace of mind.

The file you downloaded should be a zip full of everything, photos, in folders, and a bunch of csv. Files if I remember correctly, they have every convo, list of followers and block lists etc. You should be able to navigate it manually! Unless things have changed. Used to be free websites you would also have to risk trusting - where you could upload this to - and they would remove everything. Upside you keep your handle safe and then you can just stop using the site.

I'm not in this for money anyway, that's a nice bonus and if I can do good things with it when it comes- great, and like I said there's no way I'm making a living off my art, not currently anyway - but I'm still in many ways in a better position than so many bands and musicians that are way more established in other arenas, including some seasoned live musicians. That's really weird.

On the one hand I'm not complaining, on the other I think it's ridiculous how undervalued music and art is.

Like it's insane to me that a dude I know who has played to hundreds of thousands of people, if he released an album tomorrow, it would sell fuck all copies.

I've done live stuff in the past, been in bands that went nowhere, been in a band that almost went somewhere, but with all that effort- in many ways I'm doing better with how far my music has travelled, than established acts that play twice a week and have a dedicated live fanbase.

It's a really strange thing to realise that I'm doing better as an obscure indie musician that doesn't do live shows, than many bands I know here in Ireland that have been touring for a decade or two under various guises, in terms of albums I've sold and reach I have online, that's really weird. Some of these guys have been written about in well established print media, interviews, reviews, etc.

It's hard as a musician/artist, and it's not like I'm making a living from this. So it's extra odd!

You guys all need to find one of those Amazon supermarkets, bring a full basket of shopping up to the self scan, scan it and then pretend 'oh no I forgot my wallet' and then walk out, leaving all the scanned shopping on the self service check out, confusing other customers and slowing down business in the shop while they have to clear away 30 yogurts and 40 for some reason heavily crinkled copies of the Washington Post.
