No one thinks looting on its own is a sustainable solution. The development of an insurrectionary social force capable of driving all for-profit grocery stores out of a neighborhood would necessarily include the building up of new modes of subsistence, from coops to urban farming, autonomous supply chains, and a hundred other things. Under capitalism, coops end up operating much like any for-profit business just to stay afloat, and they're unable to meaningfully alter people's relationship to their lives. The question isn't whether destruction and creation are both necessary, it's how to allow each to create space and time for the other.

We've heard variations on the thesis that the best counter-recruitment moves against the far right are concrete responses to capitalist dispossession—actions that resonate with people's anger at elites. Two Montreal grocery store robberies since December with redistribution of the loot fit the bill. They're easily the most popular political actions of the past 10 years here.

Radicals elsewhere should take note. Anarchists locally argued for expropriative means in place of political campaigns that have been unable to resonate in which activists hid their true beliefs behind social-democratic goals and methods. Nous relayons ici le communiqué de Jakhi McCray, un modèle de dignité et de courage face à la répression. Il y a quelques heures, ce camarade a été mis en accusation pour l'incendie criminel de plusieurs autopatrouilles du commissariat du 83e district du NYPD.

It has been one month since the NYPD & the U.S. government came after me, accusing me of setting fire to police vehicles belonging to the 83rd precinct in Brooklyn. According to them, $800,000 worth of damage was done & the charred remains of the vehicles represented a direct attack on the police.

Today, July 21st, I walked into the 83rd precinct & turned myself in. There's a real chance that I won't see the outside of a cell for years. but I make this choice clear of mind &, in a naive way, hopeful. It's a hope that comes from feeling loved & supported by my friends, my family, & my comrades that have rallied in support of me in wake of the accusations. It's a feeling that I cherish & will hold on to in the now uncertain timeline of my life. I'm 21 years old & I know it's normal to be unsure about life & the world, but I want to thank you-whether I know you or you're just meeting me for the first time now—for giving me some comfort in all this.

My charge comes with a minimum sentence of five years & a maximum of 20. The federal government has labeled me "armed & dangerous" & blasted a $30,000 bounty for my capture, which Zionist & white supremacist news outlets have happily supported in their racist doxxing & smear campaign against me. My home has been raided alongside two other addresses in New York City, & my little siblings had assault rifles brandished at them as they were harassed & forced outside.

I'm not, nor was I ever, scared. This scare tactic is nothing compared to other black people that are beaten &/or murdered, & their names being dragged through the mud as the media does damage control for the officers that did it. It's not new to Palestinians & Arabs that are being assassinated, deported, & harassed. I've met immigrants that live under daily paranoia. not knowing whether or not ICE goons will bust through their doors & kidnap their families.

I've been arrested 12 times before this, & doxxed & lied about by fascist press & police officers alike. I've seen friends & comrades lose relationships, homes, & jobs because of their refusal to be responsible for the genocide in Palestine & the kidnapping of migrants. The SCC61, the CUNY8, the Prarieland 11, the 2020 prisoners, Tarek Barzouk, Leqaa Kordia—all just a few current examples of the government's attempt to regain control. The use of COINTELPRO & its domestic warfare campaign that left hundreds of dead & imprisoned revolutionaries throughout the 20th century & now has caused a memory crater in our movement, where we don't know how to handle the brutality of State repression.

Repression is the State trying to call our bluff. It is intense because it shows itself when our potential to disrupt genocides & capital becomes too grand to ignore. Millions of people, whether they consider themselves revolutionaries or not, that participated in the encampments, the anti-ICE street rebellions, & the George Floyd Uprising have helped create a social crisis in the last five years that continues to bring in millions more & fuel the need for liberation.

The constant effort it takes the State to oppress us is not manageable. It is already breaking, with the funding & hiring disasters in federal agencies, the infighting between the Trump administration & his base, & the complete political catastrophe over Israel. The harshness of the State's eye on our movement is nothing more than a defensive reaction. a mask from their fear. This is as much of a make or break moment for them as it is for us. If we come out of this with our solidarity & our infrastructure intact, it is a monumental win for our communities & a devastation to our enemies.

Our greatest strength is each other-that we are not just coworkers maintaining appearances for the duration of a shift. We are comrades, & with that comes a promise to love, defend, & fight for one another. Because you are my comrades, I hold this promise towards all of you. I don't know what will happen now, but I do know that I will never stop fighting & I will do my best wherever I find myself to be.

When Will it be Time for Insurrection?

I have a theory. My theory is that every time the government or some corporation commits an act of destruction to the wild or humanity; if every time a corporation’s oil tanker pollutes a coastline, or they mangle, plunder and destroy a wild place; if every time they do this, I take my anger and I place it in a certain compartment inside my brain, when it comes time for the insurrection I will be able to access those pieces of anger that I stored.

So I spend my days patiently continuingly attempting to stop the madness which drives the governments and corporations, and each day I hear of new atrocities. I go on another A to B demonstration, shout some slogans, and then at the end of day I again open up this special compartment and put the anger of some new atrocity in it, all in anticipation of the day when I shall need this anger to bring the Empire down.

But a new fear has overcome me. I perceive my anger calling me from inside this compartment, I hear the door unlatching from inside, and this new terrible question approaches me:

How shall I know when it’s time for insurrection?

Will it be when the next river or lake is destroyed after being needlessly polluted? When logging companies have destroyed another eco-system and driven the native peoples from the land?

Is then the time for insurrection?

Or is it when a government or NATO or the UN bombs a country and murders thousands of people? When another multinational is complicit with the murder of indigenous tribes so another of the earth’s natural areas can be plundered?

Is then the time for insurrection?

When your local factory exports another shipment of arms designed and destined to kill people like you and me? If corporations continue to wreak havoc upon the ozone layer, if ecology is cast blindly aside in favour of profit? If certain parties proceed in a manner which is clearly imperilling the lives of a multitude of glorious and beautiful animals and plants on our planet?

Is then the time for insurrection?

Or do we carry on simply demonstrating, handing in petitions, hoping the system will realise its faults and change, or hope for a future revolution when we’ve got the masses on our side and we will then be able to put everything right? Do we hope for this whilst the system carries on destroying us and the planet to such an extent that the world may not be worth living in when we finally get round to doing anything about it?

Do we carry on waiting and waiting until things get critical? Is it then the time for insurrection?

Or will it be too late…?

In the spirit of Trans Day of Vengeance and April Fool’s Day, a cell of trans anarchists crashed the fuck out, targeting transphobe media and transphobe truck. Around 4:30 in the morning, angered by the police violence at the trans vengeance demo, armed and masked trannies took their vengeance to Quebecor, parent company of Journal de Montreal, TVA, and more. These media outlets have consistently spewed transphobic, bigoted and fascist poppycock into the news cycle. Around 5 windows of their square victoria headquarters were smashed to shit, light pink paint was sprayed on the windows and inside the entrance, and fireworks were tossed in.

As they were dispersing, the trannies stumbled across a beautiful parked cybertruck. Angered by elon musk’s transphobic and fascistic rampage, the little transes jumped on this golden opportunity. “Fuck Nazis” was tagged on the back in bright pink, red paint covered the sides, and the front windows and windshield were smashed to smithereens.

More than 200 police in riot gear, on bikes, and on horseback were mobilized to defend the metal festival Messe des Morts tonight on Monk Boulevard. Around 150 counter-protesters still made their presence known, and two Nazi bands were struck from the lineup after being blocked at the border.

The SPVM were out to exact vengeance for last Friday. But their efforts went awry when one cop pepper-sprayed toward the crowd unprovoked, only for a cloud of pepper spray to blow back in the face of his colleague, incapacitating him for several minutes.

Paradoxe Theatre believes its decision to provide a stage to Neo-Nazi "artists" will be quickly forgotten, but Montreal antifascists have a long memory.

Yesterday, at the demonstration against NATO and for Palestine, thirty helmeted, armoured police wielding chemical weapons targeted demonstrators who were gathered around a reinforced banner. They struck them with batons and pepper-sprayed them. But the demonstrators did not relent. Comrades responded with fireworks and projectiles and by spraying cops with pink paint. The riot police were forced to retreat into an alley, without any arrests or dispersal of the crowd. A scene with little precedent in our context, opening the way for the demo to attack the Palais des Congrès, site of the NATO summit, which had its windows smashed in the following minutes. 🔨

85,000 students across #Quebec are slated to strike tomorrow, according to the federation CRUES. It's the first student strike for #Palestine we're aware of since the current wave of solidarity actions began in North America.

How was it organized? Students called general assemblies, mostly at the level of their academic department, where strike motions were put forward and voted on. Strike committees are organizing to picket and disrupt classes that may try to go forward anyway.

In response, some institutions including Dawson, a major junior college, have closed for the day tomorrow for "safety" reasons. Elsewhere, admins have sent threatening mass emails, and tensions will rise with zionists, scab professors, and security as the strike is put into effect.

Keep your eyes on Concordia University, where over 10,000 students will be on strike. Security there have called police onto campus several times since the start of the semester to arrest students.

Quebec's longstanding culture of combative student associations helps make student strikes like this one possible. But in many striking schools and departments, there was no recent precedent to build on, and autonomous organizing was key.

When successful, student strikes force people to choose sides, reveal the violent underpinnings of society and its education system, and, when prolonged, free up time for militant activity.
