1/2 Potato Club is owned by a Japanese woman and still in business. Patrick Jackson started working there because his wife is from that area of Nagoya. The school encouraged teachers to make their own materials, so he created Potato Pals. After he went to work at a junior high, he showed his work to Oxford University Press and they published it! (This is a really unusual case in ELT publishing.) The songs are by Brian Cullen, another Irishman and long term Nagoya resident.

Oh, yeah! He lived in Nagoya and we go way back.

There’s an English school in Nagoya called “Potato Club”. My Irish friend worked there, and to make it even better, he turned his experience into a textbook for kindergartners called “Potato Pals”. 😂🥔

About five police cars sped by my house this morning. Seems some guy in his 40s repeatedly stabbed another guy in his 50s (both Japanese) inside and in the parking lot of the nearby Family Mart. Apparently the guys who got stabbed is fighting for his life. No motive has been given yet.

I’m really freaked out. Nothing happens in our neighborhood like this.
