So... do people actually notice a difference between 1080p and anything higher? I may be a bad person to comment on this, because I still consider 720p "high definition" and am perfectly fine watching something in 480p (I love slow internet!).

Sometimes I feel so inferior to the kernel devs that I meet working on postmarketOS. Its like, I'm over here trying to decide if lib or share makes more sense for a config file and they're over there adding camera support and porting entirely new devices. I know that both the distro and kernel sides are important, but the kernel side is a lot flashier and has more immediate reward (until you have to upstream your code, and then you are hit with the email thread of unfathomable despair).

If you implement all of this on your own, you've deviated from stock to the point that the system is nearly unmaintainable, and then you have that issue on your hands. It is not that pmOS could *not* become something very secure, but that currently it is not and people seem to think it is for some reason.

I don't know if I have to say this, but please do not use postmarketOS on a personal device if you are doing anything security critical or requiring high levels of data protection. Android or iOS are much better options for this. I would generally recommend a Google Pixel with GrapheneOS if you really need peace-of-mind. Heck, a random stock Android ROM from a carrier phone is probably more secure with some adb work.

#PostMarketOS #Android #iOS #CyberSecurity

Its a problem from the pressures society puts on people for productivity, where doing it right the first time is a net loss. Those who are careful and don't give into the temptation are the ones who hold all of it together. Should they have to? No. But sadly they do. So we have to hold fast against the tides. They will fall and swell, but we will stand the same.

By "legitimizing" I meant giving advertising to the project through your usage. People running hyprland seen by others or posting it online (they love their Reddit) show hyprland to others who may *not* have reservations against contributing. Thus supporting hyprland even if they did not mean to contribute.

Every time I see somebody boasting about hyprland I have two dueling thoughts. First is that they probably just see a cool-looking wm and wanted to try it out. The second is that they are supporting a very negative community and legitimizing it. The solution is usually to say that that's cool and then explain my reservations about it. Usually people fall into either "oh no I didn't know about that" or "yeah, so what?". Only one of those is worth continuing the conversation.

What is up with #iPhone jailbreaking methods not open-sourcing? From what I have read apparently it is to lower trolling and "copycats", but it seems that that happens anyways. I am mostly talking about #checkra1n since that seems to be the biggest worried about open-source. It said that it would open-source four years ago (almost five now) but that never happened.

How can I trust something that works so low-level without the code? Quite worrying imo.

#FOSS #OpenSource #Apple #iOS #JailBreak
