That way you could design a much simpler system, even do proper ECS, and then rely on Godot for the I/O and visuals?

Scenes can be used as entities, and Nodes can be used as components. The SceneTree is the state. Or is this basically what you are already doing?&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Also, could it be better to keep a log of events, rather than a log of states. As long as your gameplay is deterministic, then given the same starting state and sequence of events you would get a replay of exactly the same game.

You&amp;#39;re doing it this way so that you can maintain a global state of these entities, and a history of that state. This is so that you can transmit just this state between clients and the server, and so that you can use the history of states to play back a match, or handle rollback in the multiplayer code.
