My two sats... While that miiiiiiight work, it might also be more "risk" than the average vendor on the beach is ready for. My personal preference, I like to ask and if they say no, say "No ¿todavía?" Which basically says (without saying directly) that they should probably reconsider.
And then as a personal form of outreach, because I'm actually trying to help that person welcome Bitcoin energy into their lives, I'll offer to pass them a few mil (1000 colones or $2) in says as a tip. It's a lovely interaction.

I'm proud of my grown kids (25 & 26). And all their "misfit" friends. In observing them recently, I realized that we DEFINITELY broke it all. It's not our fault, our baby boomer moms had to work (I was a "latchkey kid" at 8 and had to take care of my little sister after school). So WE worked... because we always imagined that's what mommies do. So that's TWO GENERATIONS of kids who were feral AF (me) or raised by strangers (my kids). Of course they hate their parents and any adult who dismisses them. BUT if you're lucky enough to gain their confidence, the reward is IMMENSE. They are waaaay fucking smart AND very wise-- they understood that this was all broken a loooooong time ago. That's why they look disinterested --it's a defense.

But I also believe THEY'RE going to make it right. Either they'll be super-queer (and thus NEVER EVER have babies) or super-certain that they want to be at-home mommies.
Either suits me fine.

In both cases, I'm confident they won't be sheeps. They're too wise for that.

And... (I'm not picking on you, I just feel like the only one who sees this) *some of* those shitcoins are really NOT ACTUALLY EVEN COINS. And they're DEFINITELY NOT COMPETITORS to Bitcoin. Some of them will be very useful to the world of mainstream eCommerce and international financial institutions and many will end up working with Bitcoin to create solutions we haven't even imagined yet. I stand on a street corner and gift coffee to locals three days a week in exchange for buenas vibras and insider scoops on the goings-on of this sweet little beach town-- real estate deals, historical info, projects people are interested in creating... it's one of the best investments of my time and fiat I've ever made. Sometimes tourists pay a little money to cover the costs of the coffee and baked goods (sourced from the local bakery, down the street), but that's not really the point.

I'm trying to protect this sweetness from the wave of gentrification and deforestation that is currently crashing on the Pacific shore all up and down Costa Rica. Nothing corporate here, please. Northern Costa Rica is looking more and more like Miami Beach... but here, we're still walking or riding bikes everywhere. Sometimes horses.

My coffee is slow-pour, authentic Costa Rican style. And, as a gringa, ironically, I'm THE ONLY ONE selling it. Everyone else is using the coffeemaker. The loss of everything that matters is heartbreaking, but if that crazy gringa doesn't stand on the corner, talking about it, nobody notices. One cup at a time. 🦥 time preference. Pura vida.

I was lucky enough to "get stranded" on Koh Tao. there were a few hectic months, and a LOT of solo yoga but also the Thai people were AMAZING hosts to all of us and then when (by June, there was ZERO COVID in Thailand and) they opened up domestic travel, I went everywhere and saw all the things. I've been busy the last two weeks, opening my first business --the MVP is a pop-up tent in front of a (costarrican) friend's restaurant, serving coffee on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (in November). I'm doing a study to confirm (or should i say PROVE) it works. it'll grow from there in December, when all the tourists arrive. culmination will be in February for the BitcoinJungle (npub14f2…v7lu)
#freedomfestival, but that's all just context.

¡Osa se mueve! is going to change this culture. We're gonna stimulate the local economy, get people moving.

to be honest, it's just serving coffee in the mornings, on a street where all of the tourists pass. it's hard to believe nobody else is already doing this. I bought a pop-up and a table and all the things I need to make coffee and some mugs and sadly even some to-go mugs (with plastic lids 😢) and everything I need for a total cost of about 1.5 million sats. imagine a lemonade stand, but with a REAL Costa Rican coffee, not that sh*t they made in a coffeemaker, served my my Costa Rican friends and neighbors. ☕🍊🚀

in the month of november, we will be open Fridays Saturdays and Sundays only. if there's more opportunity to justify doing more days, that's good news, but I want to grow the biz slowly, intentionally. December January and February, I'm all in. peak season is known as the only time of the year to make money in Bahía... and 90 days is the perfect amount of time for a business incubator/ test. my coffee shop is just the "proof" that it's true and it works.

the goal is to make $100 a day in profit-- that's my take-home pay. included in the overhead is $1 a coffee for the friends who are helping me.

so unlike the traditional model in Costa Rica of paying someone $4 an hour, if we can sell four coffees in 15 minutes, they'll make waaaaaay more money. and the more coffees they sell, the more money they'll make. I think that's what's missing in this economy --every time I see someone local working in a restaurant in the Bitcoin Jungle they're on their phone. they're not motivated to work. they're not motivated to sell anything. they're not making any money unless they work more hours.

while initially I pondered some of those "pay what you think it's worth" ideas, everyone around me said that probably wasn't going to work in real life. (most people from most countries don't tip, and pretty much everyone from the US knows you don't have to tip in Costa Rica bc the 10% service is already included.) I'm kind of sad about not trying that idea, especially when it's really obvious to me that this is what's called "the Bitcoin standard."

but whatever.
I figured out a better way-- commissions are very motivating. and the point wasn't TO WORK, the point was to build a community. and earn bitcoin for services provided.

the photo is me, mid-pandemic, living my best life on Little Corn Island in Nicaragua. it was not Christmas season, but the coffee mug shows how little one cares when in search of a good caffeination... i was clearly grateful. i even took a photo!

I've decided (for now) to enjoy that only people who follow me are seeing my notes. it's refreshing. and what's really cool is-- if someone didn't want to see my notes, they don't have to -- I'm not sure yet that I want to relay... it's more personal, more authentic this way.

My actual "work" for the last four years (wow, how has it been that long?!) is to take people underwater where... everything can be seen more clearly. It's kinda like teaching physics, but the medium is silence. Time stops. Everything is quiet down there. It's powerful magic.

another joy-ride I've enjoyed in my travels is standing in back of pickup trucks (again, reasonable depending on where you are in the world). I loved how the little old ladies of Guatemala (the ones with the baskets on their heads, fantastic posture) would climb right up there in their heels and nobody seemed to notice how impressive that was. can't imagine many 50+ year olds doing that in the US. 😂🤣

I've seen ppl carrying one rooster under each arm (Thailand, cock fighting obvsly), unboxed birthday cakes, dogs, big dogs, 3+ kids, and also 6-ft (2m) ladders. Some of these require a passenger, but not all.

I'm STRONGLY #anticensorship and also obvsly #antibullying --they are not mutually exclusive-- and because of that I'm recommending a #nostrfeature (think 🐷 reporting feature in Waze) that allows users (me, I'm the avatar) to #optout AND help others avoid something we don't want to see --e.g., #gross or #unhinged conversations, #violent images, anonymous #trollsofNOSTR, #shitcoiners, #bots, etc.-- I just don't wanna see it, no thanks.

My guess is that this other user feels the same about me. (If he's even real.)

Let's solve this problem proactively, please. I wanna bring the family over here and #growNOSTR and make #bitcoinbabies but traditional "blocking" users is only effective at the personal level and... well, sooooooOOo 2016. 🙄

We need a macro-level solution.

Request:
Allow users to "opt in" or "opt out" of searches flagged by other users.
For example: #revengeporn, #creepy, #anonymousbullying, an unawarranted #adhominemattack... you get the idea.
Or perhaps an just a general all-encompassing political season fave: #grossdisplayofFIATenergy. (Puke.)

Requirement(s):
(1) Allow this loser (oops, user.) to shout out into the void, if that's what he wants.
(2) Avoid reposting, updating (or otherwise amplifying) trolls, bots, or unironic ugliness.
That's why we all left Facebook, remember?

Recommended Result:
Once something has been flagged, that comment string dies (shuts down immediately, because it's gross) and ceases to be delivered as "updates" to any affected filtered inboxes.
The larger post is unaffected.

Note: a Free Speech "opt in" is an important part of the function too bc even if vermeil_kisser (npub1aly…qzxg) is a disgusting troll who occasionally likes #childporn and gets oddly defensive about it-- maybe he's not, I said *if*-- he still has a right to say it. (Hopefully someone else has a good idea what to do that kind of search/ filter. Me, I'm just generally opting out of that 💩.)

Requirement:
(3) Allow each user to adjust their own filters, because some users will prefer to "opt in" while others prefer to "opt out."

Result:
A small victory for freedom in a decentralized universe, aka user controls.
