Had a game of Kings of War (3rd edition) with my dad today. After having played a ton of The Old World this year, it was refreshing to go back to something far more streamlined

This was the first outing for both my forest terrain, and my Elven army.

Very satisfying to see Dragon Riders getting 54 attacks hitting on 2’s rerolling 1’s.

The anointed clambered the trench walls, charging towards the shocktrooper who satcheled the priest.

Took a leap, turning her charge into a dive

Great axe flailing whilst she screeched through the air

Tripped at the last second and fell flat on her face.

The New Antioch forces however had a banger.

Their two sniper priests, deployed riskily atop the trench lines took aimed shots at the heretic priest, wounding him and sending him prone

A shock trooper followed up and lobbed a satchel charge into the priests face, sending him back to hell.

The Antioch lieutenant climbed the trenches and showed her two yeomen how to shoot, landing a shot in the cracks of the heavily armoured Heretic anointed.

Turn 1 and the heretic legion had a piss poor set of rolls.

The artillery witch’s shell scattered off the board. The heretic priest attempted mind control and got a migraine. The chorister’s auto shotgun landed zero shots and their grenade launcher trooper failed miserably in her attempt to scramble up a trench wall.

In between working on Exo, I’ve been madly working on terrain and miniatures for all sorts of systems. From The Old World to Kill Team, The Silver Bayonet and more.

My current fixation.. possession? Is Trench Crusade. Really enjoying the rules, but honestly just won't ever get time to actually play it with anyone.

The Ratmech stumbled on a significant cache of archeotech and cheese. Unfortunately in their rush to collect the goodies they alerted a nearby patrol of Mage Hunters.

Each turning point a new NPO kill team will enter from a randomly determined board edge. The goal is to get off *a* board edge with the loot.

Getting back into the campaign tonight. Skipped through some non combat turns and got to this whopping mess.

280 wounds of NPO's all converged on my Killteam in sniper alley.

Narratively this has to be some kind of column that I've stumbled upon. Maybe a vehicle or something.

Final step for the night was resolving the campaign map layer.
I rolled a d6 for each NPO Patrol on the map, on a 5+ they'd move to a random adjacent sector. Somehow that meant they mostly moved towards the centre?

The three main objectives all have sub-objectives I'll need to complete first, so we'll see how this goes!

Post game wrap up, and fortunately not a scratch on any of the models I lost. Geared up for the next battle. Overall pretty happy with how that worked out!

(wow the kt21 postgame death-check rules are *forgiving* compared to say.. Mordheim, you can only lose a model on two consecutive rolls of 1…)

Game ended turning point four. The Ratmech are exceptional scurriers, zipping off the board with autogun shots trailing after them.

All too late did this Mage hunter push forth from the walls to the countdown beeps of the Ratmech explosive devices.

That’s a costly win on the first mission of this campaign.

Turning point two down, two of three objectives sabotaged, but so far only one model down each.

It’s a sign of good balance where a small team of relatively weak models can put down so much hurt on a larger more capable team without taking much back, so long as they’re well defended.

I had to lower the print quality down to get each part printed in a reasonable timeframe, but paint and gumption helped it come up alright!
