Daniel Tabin et al (2026) revealed what is now the oldest #R1b ancient #DNA; namely I5410. It was found in the #Climente site in Romania and is R-L754 like previous my found Villabruna1 in Italy.

They report: "The oldest uncontaminated newly reported individual is from the site of Climente II in Romania, dating to the Epigravettian period, and is radiocarbon-dated to 14842–14100 years cal BP (12687±45 BP; after a correction for the freshwater reservoir effect: 12349±63 BP, OxA-40804)(95.4% calibrated confidence interval). This individual was a male (genetic ID I5410, skeletal code S.IV, square 2 (F2320)) and carried a Y-chromosome haplogroup R1b (R-L754), the same haplogroup as the later Villabruna individual from Italy."

This is interesting but there is no indication this person was ancestral to our particular R1b clade; namely R-A321 #Kincaids. Our line came from the steppes of what is now Russia to northern Germany via Moravia and then southwest Germany as per Dr. Iain McDonald.

During the Last Glacial Maximum this I5410 ancient DNA sample seems to have been of a Balkan / Iron Gates #refugium while our line seems to have been of the Altai mountain - Ural moutain area refugium.

https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.08.05.743150v1

For now, all we can say is that Kincaids were in Scotland from 1425 A.D. That is when they started appearing in records there. They may have been there much longer but we await ancient dna evidence to support this.

What dna evidence does support is that the ancestors of R-A321 Kincaid's were in territory of what is now Germany for at least 2566 years. That is from the creation of the R-Z381 mutation to the creation of the R-S5245 mutation based on Family Tree dna dates. Before that they were in the Bohemia / Czechia for about 500 years - from the creation of the R-L151 snp to R-Z381's creation.

For a genetic history of Kincaid R-U106 ancestors before R-A321 see Dr. Iain Macdonald's 'Phylogeography of R-U106' (26 February 2026) at https://www.jb.man.ac.uk/~mcdonald/genetics/phylogeography.pdf.

At the end of April Marina Silva published a paper titled 'Genomic history and selection in Roman and early medieval Britain' (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.04.28.721361v1) in which they noted five ancient DNA samples that are sub R-S5245. Two are R-S5247 and three under R-S5246 which are known for the Sinclairs of Roslin. All but one date before the Anglo-Saxon period.

The samples are:

R-S5247
C12820 (250-400CE Clifton, Yorkshire)
C11708 (450-600CE Droxford, Hampshire)

R-S5246
C12901 (243-401CE Catterick, Yorkshire)
C11855 (200-410CE Napier Rd, Kent)
C12264 (100-410CE Blackfriars, Leicestershire)

This Roman era possible English origin for the Sinclairs of Roslin is most stunning.

We await for Family Tree DNA to verify these samples and upload to their y-dna tree. Errors do occur so ftdna verification is most essential. Especially the timeframes.

Most Kincaid's descending from the first one who assumed the name from the lands of Kincaid (now Milton of Campse opposite Kirkintilloch, Scotland) are clades of the R-A321 y-dna SNP which is sub R-S5245>FGC12993.

No ancient DNA gas been found for R-A321 but 4 have been found sub R-S5245. They are DRH057 from Deersheim, Germany; VK389 from Telemark, Norway; C11119 from Oxford, England; and the recently reported I21002 in Akbari et all. 2026. The latter is R-S5245>Y8604>BY13972 but has no sample information released yet. Family Tree Dna seems to place it in their Y-Dna time tree between 700 CE and 800 CE.

DRH057 is the oldest sample at 400-600 CE. VK389 was a Viking man living 900-1000 CE and C11119 was a Medieval British man living 1050-1290 CE.
