Privileged individuals (particularly white people in the west) are used to occupying a state of being “the default” in a way that provides them with an unusual level of comfort that their experiences and the media make seem like is just normal. So when they’re relegated to a lower strata upon coming out as some sort of para, they find themselves experiencing the lack of “default status” for the first time. They over-correct as a result, calling any sort of discomfort bigotry. And while some of it is, what they’re trying to claim isn’t a “fair” level of comfort, but a privileged level they feel entitled to because most beings in their life (other white or otherwise privileged individuals) get to live that way. Other marginalized groups, particularly PoC, find groups where they can be most comfortable but don’t try to force outsiders to abide by their comfort norms.
