But it's once again "weak" in the sense that some TechBro could spend money to train on BSD/MIT code only and "certify" that and your policy (like the non-articulated one from Theo) would no longer apply. The real problem is not copyright and licensing. The real problem is the utter idiocy and destructive impact of the thing itself. Put that in the policy.

That cabinet meeting is making me projectile vomit. It's literally exactly how it would play out in Russia or China or any other full-on dictatorship. A bunch of assholes sit around a table and tell the huge asshole in the middle that he's the greatest. Everybody is lying with almost every word they say but it's being broadcast and "analyzed" by people with serious faces. What a terrible joke! This to me is literally the end of the US as a democracy. It ended today, and it ended with that meeting. Not that there was much left before, but at least there was never any of this groveling at the smelly feet of a naked emperor. Disgusting.

I am actively looking for a new job. I've spent quality time at "R1" universities first getting my CS PhD and then teaching for over a decade. For the last few years I've been in industry doing mostly (though not exclusively) systems software. I've been a software architect for foundational services on two recent product roll-outs that are making actual money. No "crypto" no "AI" no "surveillance" and remote only (unless it's a teaching gig). I like it in Bavaria.

What are you even on about? Being picky about licensing has nothing to do with "Amazon's playbook" on anything. I am wondering if I know someone here who's using one of the X1 "sexy" Thinkpads? Doesn't matter much which generation as long as it's not 2nd. And as long as you're on some kind of Linux or BSD.

If you are that person: How's it going with that X1? Everything working on your OS of choice? Any particular "trouble" with the machine, either overheating or some port flaking in and out of operation? Anything aside from "works just great"?

Because I am thinking about getting an "as cheap as possible" X1, probably Gen3 or Gen4, to use for *very* light work and possibly for giving simple presentations with.

Not sure what's wrong with me, but I've restarted #baldursgate once again after realizing that Imoen is nerfed in Siege of Dragonspear. I mean come on, why do I spend XP on her? I get a completely new Imoen in #baldursgate2 anyway, but I want a high-level thief-type around in SoD. So now I am finally doing a fighter/mage/thief as my main character which I've wanted to do for a long time anyway and I am at the point where I need to decide which single-class thief to pick up and level. There's really only the one with the sultry voice I guess... 🤷 #retrogaming

Just moved here so it's #introduction time again? On the #fediverse since 2017. Recovering, possibly recurring, academic, but that's another account. Avid #ttrpg person, but that's another account. Cranky purveyor of unpopular opinions, but that's another account.

I'll try to focus on #retrocomputing and #electronicmusic here. Those things tie together my love for #synths, #chiptunes, and #demoscene productions. Not much of a musician myself, but I enjoy noodling around.
