The problem is Americans want change. Real change. The type of change that the traditional Republican or Democrat is never going to give them. But so long as on the surface they sound or appear like they would, they will win.

This is what Donald Trump figured out. And assuming we have another election, the next person need only look and sound different to win. But it has to be, not just during an election. There are enough dumb people to push someone over the edge, just as there are enough smart people to hold something back.

Unless someone like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez runs for President and the Democratic Leadership does not stand in her way, like they did with Bernie Sanders, expect another crazy MAGA-like conservative.

Because the need for change does not go away until satisfied. In fact, the worse things get, the more that need grows. As someone who used to help contribute to Firefox, and who, outside the development, made a Linux installer for Firefox ("Firefox Automatic Installer for Linux"), I absolutely hate LibreWolf. -- Why? 🤔

LibreWorlf often breaks things (repeatedly). Then proceeds to blame Mozilla Firefox, even when Firefox was still good. They seldom took responsibility for their own issues and always passed the blame, despite those issues being exclusive to LibreWolf.

This only further hurt Firefox, because you had all these people saying, "just use LibreWolf" while also saying, "Firefox is the problem." But LibreWolf 100% depends on Firefox. They're a soft-fork who has made it clear, they have no intention of ever going independent. That means, when Firefox goes, so does, LibreWolf.

I switched to Vivaldi Browser. It is everything Firefox should have been. Yes, it is Chromium fork, but they do not follow along with everything Google does. Not only do they include their own ad-blocker, but they worked with uBlock to include v3 support going forward, that works nicely alongside their ad-blocker. Proton is leaving because Proton cannot control the flow of information here on the Fediverse.

Most corporations mimic social algorithms to their advantage, particularly, to suppress news and information that may not paint them in a good light. Proton cannot do that on the Fediverse.

When Proton rebranded a few years ago, which caused some people to lose their accounts with no refund, they silenced any complaints on both Facebook and Reddit. I know, because I was one of those people. Most of you were happy to have the new upgraded accounts, but if you had the original family plan, which they discontinued (only to start selling a new family plan months later), you were not a happy person to find out you lost your service.

Additionally, it has been brought to people's attention that Proton now falls under Us-jurisdiction. Proton would like to argue that is only for Proton Wallet, but our legal system does not allow a company to pick and choose. Plus, even if they could (you cannot), it means they could still be pressured and influence by US Politics and US Laws now. This was another little fact, Proton wanted to suppress, but cannot because the Fediverse is organic, and not centralized.

(1Password, is owned by a Canadian company, owned by a US company).

It is completely tired to your phone. Using their web browser extension? Check your phone. Want to log in to a site? Check your phone. Want to update a login details? Check your phone.

You ever lose or damage your phone, you're f-cked. It is not designed for multiple devices either.

2) pCloud

It is indeed outside US-jurisdiction. The company is not owned by any business in the USA. It does not own any businesses itself in the USA. But they do resell services in the USA, and the only way you can avoid not being assigned to one of those US Servers is to use a VPN so you'll be forwarded to their Europe Servers.

I am surprised concerning Costco.

My first time ever visiting a Costco (we have one in West Springfield, Massachusetts), was many (many) years ago with a friend and their family. They said they were going to go shopping, and asked if I wanted to come with them.

The odd thing, was they were not going right away, and wanted me to come back in 30 minutes. And what makes that odd was they used this time to "dress up", as if they were dressing up to go to church or attending a special event. I recall them looking a little surprised that I still had the same t-shirt and blue jeans, I had been wearing, earlier. I recall my friend's mom, asking if I was ready to go, as if she was uncertain I should go.

It was not just them, because as soon as I entered Costco, I truly did feel out of place. Imagine an entire store of people dressed up to go shopping. I have never seen anything like it outside of Costco. And it was not just that 1x, either. My few shopping trips to Costco varied between weekday to weekend, and nowhere near any holidays or special occasions that I am aware of.

You would be surprised on how many people gave you a hard glance, because you were not dressed up. My friend's family never again offered for me to tag along, and I recall their mother wanting to keep some distance, as if she was ashamed I was there with them.

The atmosphere was that of "snotty people" with their noses up in the air. I recall even the staff, who were offering free samples, ensured I did not touch anything, while other folk were allowed to simply walk up and take what they liked. Mine was specifically handed to me, from a respectable distance (armed reached out). The store was also filled with white people, and I mean, not even any of the workers looked different from one another.

Anytime I tried entering Costco I was challenged by staff, who gate kept the entrance, verifying everyone was a member. Since I stood out of place, they were quick to stop me every time, and made me obtain a "guest shopping pass" the few times I went alone. Costco was not a stop I felt comfortable shopping in, and I have not been in a Costco in years. Preferring our local BJ's Wholesale Club (Chicopee, MA).

So I am very surprised - Very surprised, that it is Costco who is keeping their DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies, and now giving all their employees a pay raise.

I admit, it has been years (many) since I have entered a Costco. But I will always have that memory.

I will even double down, and instruct people to talk about something they have no interest in. For example, have an hour long conversation about crocheting, and you will recieve ads if not for crocheting, but at least DYI and Arts & Crafts type ads. Or if you have no interest in electronics, talk about electronics, and watch all the tech type ads come rolling in.

Here is an updated copy of my list (January 25, 2025) of service providers outside the United States jurisdiction. 😉

Naturally, making this list is not easy. These are two types of companies I avoided in making my list.

1) Those who actually fall under US-jurisdiction because they are based or owned by a company in the USA.

More than often, I will stumble over a company that appears to be outside the USA, but later find they are owned by another corporation based inside the USA, and so they do fall under US-jurisdiction.

2) Those who voluntarily give up their sovereignty to the United States. The 2nd type, who voluntarily gives up their sovereignty in the way of US jurisdiction, have whole sections of their terms concerning US Laws and US based customers. If a fascist government says jump, these people will ask, how high?!

I encourage people to scrutinize my list. The old saying, "trust, but verify", is something I believe in.

Explaining legality on social media, is not easy. This is why people hire lawyers, why I wish legalese was illegal, and I certainly wish all laws were written in the common tongue. Because explaining things to people, is not always easy, and doing it on social media, confined into a simple post, even harder. But I'll try, and I'll keep it simple.

1st, you need to know, OVH has fought the United States Government in a court of law, and won (See URL). That is no easy task.

The United States absolutely wanted WikiLeaks, the website which was sharing their top secret, confidential information, to be taken offline. OVH, being a French company, based out of France, disagreed. And they were able to do this, because they have no services in the United States.

I know, you're thinking, but wait, they sell US-based servers. They're technically reselling. In the US, OVH is a customer, the same way you're a customer. They lease from other web hosting companies, and instead of using those servers for themselves, they hand them over to you.

This is why, if any of you have previously ordered services from OVH, especially if you ordered more than one, you noticed how vastly different the service may be if you ordered a US Server. Not all web hosting providers are created equal, and some of the US-based companies OVH subscribed from are better than others.

It is also why, if you ordered an OVH Server in the US and another in France, but had a question for both, you received a quick reply concerning the France server. But you likely noticed a downgrade in customer support from a US server, because, your, inquire is passed along from OVH to the US, back to OVH, and then to you. OVH is a customer of the customer service offered in the USA.

OVH is only a customer and that distinguish difference is why OVH was able to fight the United States in a court of law, arguing both they, their website, and the direct services they offer were not under US-jurisdiction, and why WikiLeaks, much to the horror of the United States Government, remained online, spilling all their private secrets, even today (it is still online). Although, today, they're hosted by Scaleway, which I also included in my list of recommended web hosting providers.

When I listed OVH, I trusted YOU to be smart enough not to order a US-based server. Which you should not do, because, of course, than your website falls under US-jurisdiction. And, had WikiLeaks been on one of those US Servers at the time, they most certainly would have been shutdown.

OVH is an unusual exception. They are not the norm. Most providers who offer servers in the USA, own their own hardware, and hire their own staff, with their own office located in the USA. OVH is not one of those companies, and like any customer, they can unsubscribe and move on. Which OVH did for a time.

Donald Trump, often called anything he disliked, fake news. I hated this, because his nonsense was distracting from an important, real issue.

In America, what passes as news is one celebrity type reporter, interviewing another celebrity type reporter, expressing their personal thoughts, opinions, and feelings. That is not real news. Real news would report the facts -- all of them -- The wonderful, good, bad, and ugly, and then shut up, and let you think for yourself. We do not have that in America.

Donald Trump's "fake news" was not fake. Trump is just a narcissistic fascist jerk, who simply does not like bad press. If you disagree with him, he would always, and still does, claim everyone was fake. And it does not surprise me that he is attacking news outlets. It's awful.

But it is distracting from the fact that, American news source, cannot even criticize Jeff Bezos, or Elon Musk, for example, because they own the very media outlets that would normally report on them.

It is all an awful mess, and none of it good.

It has not been easy to generate this list. Often you could find company one, and they're based outside the USA, but they're owned by business two, who was also owned by corporation three, and unfortunately they would be based in the United States.

I am "Consumer Content Administrative Manager". My primary duties include content appeals, account appeals, account reviews, and some peer review.

It is no surprise that my job depends on people using Facebook. Today, I am going to suggest, you not do so. I can make that suggestion because we have a user base of billions, and I know most people would keep using Facebook even if the Devil ran the company. People are strange.

But if you feel you can truly live without Facebook, do so. Internally, things are changing, and not for the better. You should especially consider leaving Meta if you are a minority, woman, LGBTQ+, trans, or identify as progressive, politically. If facts matter to you, and misinformation is something you do not want to be subject toward, you should especially consider leaving, Facebook.

You have no privacy from Meta, while using Meta. None. I do not care if you believe you disabled a "feature" or "opt out" of something. You only seem to have done so. And even if you're going to continue to use Meta, uninstall the app (all of them). We collect data on you, even when you're not using the app.

The end of 32-bit apps is a long time coming.

YES, of course, Windows 10 and Windows 11 can run 32-bit apps. But with the growing lack of a 32-bit operating system, 32-bit specific apps will be developed less overtime. The same thing happened to 16-bit and 8-bit too.

I do not expect any operating system to 100% drop 32-bit support anytime soon. Unlike 16 or 8-bit, 32-bit lasted for 30 year or so. There will be a need for legacy support for than a while (years to come). But I do expect fewer 32-bit apps overtime.

Americans value their privacy, and their creative works. And I'm never going to argue against such values.

But in terms of technological advancements, China's lack of privacy and creative intellectual property concerns, means the more advance AI is going to come from China.

It's a numbers game.

When you have billions of people who are used to the idea of every service or device spying on you. That makes for a powerful advantage if you're an AI developer, when the population often cannot opt out.
