The initial bafflement has faded over time, and I find vibe coding much less enjoyable than writing code myself. It is often much faster, though, and it allows me to tackle bigger projects so I see that value. What I don't experience, however, is an improvement of how well the code generators work. At this point, I am not convinced that LLM based GenAI is going to be improving in quality enough to actually be competitive as developers.

The sheer amount of money that is going into AI infrastructure is terrifying. It is not that I believe that these systems are inherently evil. What scares me, however, is that even though AI is not delivering on most of the promises that its proponents make, it exists in a colossal form now. What is it going to do for people and the economy? What is it actually good for? What problems does it solve? The answers that I see are dwarf-like when compared to the resources spent to build it.
