Im not a psychologist or anything but have some of you considered that it's not your art, or music, or job, that's burning you out? it's literally just the whole world, and probably your job too, but mostly just the world and its constant barrage of everything horrible happening all the time.

be gentle with yourselves.

I know you can't mental health away the rising prices and encroaching ai, war, and all.
But you can gently remind yourself that this is being caused by situations outside your direct control and, and that it's completely "normal" to not be able to function entirely as you watch genocide after genocide happen around you.

You aren't losing your skill, but your drive, your ability to think clearly, your desire and every other emotion, is being dampered by literally a few billionaire assholes hellbent on enslaving society. So when you sit to focus on $Task brain is already at 95% capacity. No fucking wonder.

Maybe channeling some of that into actionable things could help, even if it's just popping off a call or email in the morning to make sure your voice is heard; finding a protest; making radical art zines writings; i dunno whatever

Point is, I think it's ok to set the pen down for a while and recover; but I also think some of y'all are being so hard on yourselves for shit that is not your fault.

Just know youre loved, and the works you put out into the world, even the unpolished ones, make it a better place. when youre ready to do so again.

One thing I noticed yesterday is that people out here do not have a plan for these kind of events. It's not like living in Colorado where everybody is used to Wildfire Danger from birth on up.

Grass fires are a way of life on the plains but grass fires driven by 70 plus mile an hour winds and extreme low humidity and drought are completely brand new thanks to climate change.

Grass fires are typically quick and intense but they burn out easily. They don't usually jump creeks and roads and fire breaks. This fire burnt clear across what should be wetlands, several creeks and two highways at least.

Had half a dozen conversations with people that went like:
"Hey there's a fast moving fire, you need to move"
"Oh it's not that bad, it wont make it here."
*half hour later*
"Oh i think my house is gone"

Right now is a good time to get an evacuation plan in place if you don't have one. Right now.

I want to take a second to remind people, particularly the new brooms, that the wheel of the year isn't entirely concrete nor is it required part of your practice (there are no requirements).

Due to the whos wheres and whats, the Wheel of the Year is very eurocentric. If you're like me, you may live somewhere in which February is typically the harshest, snowiest, bitterest part of the winter, so February 1 does *not* feel like spring approaching in the slightest. And that's ok. You can choose to quietly honor it with a candle, you can go all out, you can wait a few weeks until it feels more in line with your climate and latitude. You can simply acknowledge the lengthening days and returning light, even if the weather doesn't match the celebration. You can chose to focus primarily on the equinoxes and solstices if that's what you prefer.

Witchcraft is a craft, and you're allowed to approach that craft in any way that feels comfortable to you. (just repsect other cultures and closed practices, pls)

I mean it's there it's just that it's beyond the horizon and the only reason you can see it right now is because it's being projected up like a lens created by mass of warm air trapped in a valley due to temperature inversions

My father-in-law passed away this afternoon. He had been diagnosed with a pulimary embolisim which finally progressed to the point on taking him. His oxygen saturation got very low, he lost consciousness, and despite life saving measures they couldnt get him back.
Just got home from dropping the husband off for a last minute flight back to missouri, so i can get some things secured around here and wait for a friend to come watch the animals before i head down there myself in a few days.
Jim had 84 pretty stellar trips around this sun. He grew up in rural Arkansas before moving to Springfield to study business where he met Joyce. He worked for Royal Typewriter Company making his way up to the head of sales which eventually took him and Joyce to Portugal for several years, before the company shut down and he found himself back in Missouri running a bait and tackle shop and doing boat repairs on Pomme de Terre Lake, where he and his wife raised their two kids. They were married for 63(!) years.
We talked with Jim every morning, as he loved to hear about everything happening on the farm from the breakdowns to the successes to tghe local town drama. These conversations usually wrapped up when Jim would tell us, "Well I guess it's time for you all to get up off your asses and get to work. You have a farm to run."
I was not expecting this morning to have been the last phone call.

In my mind the most brave a child should ever have to be is trying out for the school sports team, or getting out of their comfort zone to audition for the lead role in the school play, or *at most* standing up to the bully making fun of their friend. ok, so sorbet is 2 ingredients: fruit juice and sugar. But what makes the texture of sorbet so smooth is turning all your sugar into a simple syrup first so it stretches and pulls the sugars. That way it freezes smooth instead of icy and crunchy.

First step is to check the volume by pouring the juice into the ice cream maker to make sure it's not too full, or it won't freeze.

We also give it an extra strain just to make sure we catch any bits that made it through the juicing process

Then we add our simple syrup. Sorbet needs a high sugar content and with some fruits you can skip this step. for sour fruits tho, you're going to need a few cups of simple syrup
