DAB is really hit and miss here (especially in the car); FM’s coverage has never been perfect across quite large areas of the UK…but it really feels that’s what they are pushing us towards. I guess they are convinced it’s progress…but I’m not so sure 🤔

A brass Kwaeco 5.6mm clutch & a no-name carbon fibre pencil. I notice she also has a Ferrule pencil holder from Makers Cabinet…the half-way house between mechanical pencils and a traditional pencil https://www.makerscabinet.com/products/ferrule. I love the weight and engineering of the Ferrule. She does like brass…

My son has his own view on mechanical pencils…and he is in love with his two Wingback Brass and Steel pencils. He absolutely loves the heavier feel, the heavy knurling and the throw-it-in-a bag bomb proof construction. He just started to study Geology at University and these were two of his must pack items and have been on a few field trips in their life so far! https://wingback.co.uk/products/mechanical-pencil-brass

I tend to like 0.7mm for general work, but the 5.6mm Brass Kwaeco Sketch Up pencil is wonderful - it’s got real heft & is wonderful to make quick notes with as I’m on a conference call. The Staedtler Mars Technicolor 789C falls in the same category for me too. It just feels right in the hand. Their Graphite 925-35 is one of my preferred options for layout work. A Rotring 600 has been known to sit on my desk as well

I’m way behind the peanut gallery answering…but I really like Leuchtturm1917 notebooks, and my wife really likes her awesome Japanese Hobonichi Techo notebooks. I supplement my physical notes with markdown notes captured in Obsidian (on Mac, PC and iPhone). I pray you don’t ask for our thoughts on mechanical pencils or fountain pens etc…Mastodon doesn’t allow me enough words to describe our choices…

Had lots of fun putting together a small toolkit for my son to take to Uni. It should be able to handle plenty of the small breakages and challenges he might experience away from home. There’s also a small portable multimeter and USB-C soldering iron…but I haven’t had time to add them to the kit yet. Now I’ll have to build a kit for myself!

I think until you get to £100 they are all supposed to suck! ...

I think until you get to £100 they are all supposed to suck! We’re lucky, as our builders always ran cables straight up from sockets etc…so we know the path of most wires inside the walls
