Nostria (native) is now available on Zapstore (nprofile…tdq0)!

This means there are two official releases of Nostria on Zapstore and it will continue to be two for a little longer, because they are distinct from each other.

The previous one loads the app from our web server and gets updates automatically, you cannot stop the updates. Additionally it's just a small shell that uses something called TWA, Trusted Web Activities. It means it's more dependent on your browser, it even supports built in translations the browser has, which is important for some of you. This version support browser extension signing on your phone. This version does no longer support local signer, only remote signer protocol (you can still use local Amber, but setup requires more steps).

New app is fully packaged, meaning that all the code to run it, is installed on the local device. It does not automatically install updates by itself, though you can check for updates in Settings/About. New app has native signer support, meaning it's basically a one click button from the login screen and you're ready to use Nostria, it's just as easy as any other Nostr client.

This new app renders the full available screen and there are a few UI bugs related to this that is being fixed. So consider this new app is not as optimized as the other one, even though they are exactly the same code.

Image previews for example, shows on your whole screen, the same with videos. Please give it a go and provide us feedback, we'll continue to update the release with improvements and fixes.

This has now changed and the web app is embedded into the app itself, and can be installed as a desktop app for all platforms, including Linux and Mac.

Instead of seeing generic thumbnails, it allows you to play back video, pictures - and even look at encrypted files, right in the media library. There is currently some spam attacks on direct messages on Nostr, some users is receiving messages, each for different account so simply banning is not a good solution, neither is reporting.

Each account is only delivering one message, so you can "Delete" (removes locally) the chats one by one, or you can purge them all from the new Manage Inbox dialog.

Also added Web of Trust filter on the "Others" tab, helping you sort your inbox from non-following profiles.

If someone does not have a rank score yet, that you have already chatted with, they will be included in the "0" rank score and not hidden.

Hi music lovers! We got a bunch of improvements for you:

1. Tracks listing on music profiles now sort albums together, sorted by track numbers and release date.

2. Songs on the main music feature are now listed by their released date if available, not by updated date. Make sure your tracks has a "released" date in the metadata, otherwise it will be listed by updated date.

3. Added support for duration on tracks, so go back and edit if your track doesn't have duration yet.

4. Listing of artists didn't load their avatars, unless the profile was already cached, now it loads the avatar correctly.

5. Listening: You can now see what other people on the Nostr network is listening to, at the bottom of Music page.

6. If you open music profile that has no albums, it will automatically show the tracks listing instead, one less click.

7. "public" and "private": If you're making a playlist (album) for yourself, make sure you uncheck the "Public Album" toggle, then it won't be listed in the public realm of album releases. While you are preparing to publish your new album, you can keep it private while editing, and then change to public when it's ready!

8. There are some older music events on the Nostr network that was different than the new protocol, added a backwards compatibility for those so they will play correctly now. Unfortunately some of the artists didn't use Blossom server but external hosting and those tracks are gone, not playable anymore.

The reason it has plateaued is because most nostr devs are more concerned with becoming #nostrfamous rather than making a product non tech people will be interested in.

Satlantis has the right idea by allowing people to sign up using credentials they already have, so, no worrying about losing access to your account if you lose your nsec. And once you’re comfortable, you can sign in with your nsec and detach your other credentials to retain your privacy. Primal is starting to figure this out as well by allowing people to backup their keys to iCloud.

There is unfortunately a lot of users who have dead relays in their relay lists. Nostria has added filter for these in the app to avoid exhausting resources connecting to these. We also made a dedicated monitoring service that will monitor if they come back and to verify we don't add valid relays to the filter.

Please take a minute to check your relay list, it will help everyone on the network if you keep an up-to-date list of relays.

Daily Updates

If you are new to Nostria, we'd like to mention that Nostria is updated multiple times a day with improvements and new features. Even when you install through the app stores, the app itself will auto-update.

Why is this important? We want to be reactive to our users. We also want you to know that if you are upset with something that doesn't work or want it to be different, we are here to help.

People and Lists /people

Keeping a large following list can quickly become unmanageable, so we built a list management that makes it quick and easy to organize people you follow, or any other profile, into lists.

You can make a specific "News" list, and then view a feed that only shows notes from news sources. Some of the news profiles post a lot, so now you can keep up with the news without cluttering your regular feed.

Collections /collections

Collections has optimized management of various content that you control on Nostr. Your media library has been moved here, this is where you have full control on all your uploaded media.

Bookmarks has been extended with custom bookmark lists, so you're no longer limited to the basic list, you can make any number of lists.

Here is a new very powerful feature you can do by combining bookmark lists and the updated article editor: You can collect sources for research or newsletters using a bookmark list, and in the article editor you can pick a bookmark and it will populate the article with everything you've gathered. Try it out, it's amazing!

Relays under Collections is not the same as the relays in Settings. These are the public relays feeds, and it's also the relay sets that you can set for getting content for specific purposes, such as Music Relays, Streams Relays and Article Relays.

This help you keep your own personal account relays to a low number (we advice 3-4 maximum), but you won't miss any streams or articles by having a low set of account relays, instead you can get content from many places very easily.

Emoji sets allow you to search for custom emoji packs and install them, so you can use them as reactions. We suggest checking out the Twitch package, it's very popular.

Interests is lists of common interests you might follow, you can open feeds based upon your interests, for example #asknostr, #catstr, #farmstr. This is very useful to get a feed that matters to you.

Follow Packs is also known as Starter Packs, you can build these and share them with friends and family, to give them a good curated list of accounts to follow. You can make multiple, for different topics and interests. For example you could have one that only has streamers, or farmers, or artists.

Boards is the final feature on Collections and it's a way you can collect posts and articles, or pictures or videos. Make some creative boards when you're researching home renovations.

Messages /messages

Private messages is a very important part of social network, Nostria now has added sharing of pictures, videos, posts, articles and more. Messages will show everything nicely in the chats.

Home

We've added a home, or dashboard. It has a button for every single feature in Nostria.

Settings /settings

Settings have been improved a lot, most important is search. If there anything you're looking for, just search and you will find. No more navigating through pages with different toggles, just search and do what you wanted.

The menu is now fully customizeable, you can decide what menu options you want to have there. Did you know you can also fully customize the Nostria icon on the top? You can choose it to open Home, Feeds - or simply the first menu item. Try adding Clips as the first menu item and enjoy a bit different experience on Nostr, that feels more like TikTok.

Wallet /wallet

After you setup your NWC connection with your wallet provider, you will now see your balance and the transaction history in the new Wallet feature.

Premium: YouTube /youtube

The YouTube feature has been improved a lot, with a new video player that can be moved around in the app. It's super easy to add a new channel as well, just copy the channel URL, paste it into the new channel option and it will discover channel art and name automatically.

Premium: Newsletter /newsletter

You can maintain a newsletter on Nostr using Nostria very easily. There are many ways a user can subscribe to your newsletter, for example you can require that they have zapped one specific pinned note, or anyone who has liked a note.

It will prepare and send a direct message to each of the subscribers, directly on Nostr.

Profile now has links, where people can see your social links to other services. You can even add proof, which is validated, building confidence that your profile is the official.

Performance improvements has been added everywhere. We are still not happy with the performance everywhere. Nostr is a decentralized protocol, so it's harder to give the best possible user experience, but we're doing our best and it's pretty good today - but we are dedicated on making it better. We've added some smart logic to optimize, we hope you'll enjoy it and have a great experience.

Unfortunately none of the posts include "imeta" tag, which is useful for calculating the aspect ratio and potentially a thumbnail of the videos you publish.

For user's on Nostria that doesn't have auto play for all videos enabled (default off, it will auto-play short form videos), it renders like this now. I will improve this so it starts loading the videos, but even then, the UI will jump a bit while it downloads parts of the video to render a preview and discover the movie aspect ratio.

Planning on doing a long video that demonstrates everything, as it takes time to produce any of this content and that time distracts from building, but it's a balance - without users, why build anything at all?

Nostria strive towards perfection, for elegance and smoothness. To be a trustworthy app and experience that just works, that doesn't fail randomly. At the same time, delivering a massive amount of features, so you don't need context switching between a bunch of vibe-coded apps.

While there is a lot of great smaller Nostr apps, there is a cost-benefit of adopting these. Any smaller and focused app might not get the attention and care as larger apps, as there is smaller user base.

- Implemented support for Personalized Web Of Trust. Go find the "Trust" section in Settings, click the service provider and complete the setup. This currently requires a browser extension to signup, cannot be done with nsec or remote signer. Regarding browser signer extension, we got some exciting news for you very soon!
- Profile hover cards only opens on avatar, not the name.
- Favorites hover card now has rich formatting, including rendering of users, images and more.
- Improved the event toolbar layout, this took a lot of work to tune and get right. Hope you all are enjoying this!
- Swipe to left on image dialog now closes instead of navigating away.
- Mobile optimized user profile and more.
- Emoji picker for chat messages and note editor.
- Media picker for chat messages, either browser your existing media or upload new.
- Personalized Trending - This is just early preview, it's a way to view all locally cached events by their popularity in terms of comments, reposts, likes and zaps. The initial experience with this is amazing, it serves me the most popular content from my own social network and beyond.

The version on app store and installable packages is not connected with the versions of the app itself. Nostria is a progressive web app, and it automatically updates to latest version. The app store is just a shell package that does not carry the same version numbers.

We decided to remove the multiple columns for feeds. We have no logging on Nostria so we don't know how popular this feature is, but to simplify the experience, reduce the complexity, we decided to remove this feature.

There are other Nostr apps you can use that has multiple columns. We hope this change will be welcomed as it will reduce some UI complexity and simplify the feeds.

Live Streams /streams

We've further enhanced our live streaming capabilities, with an improved interface, chat replies and emojii reactions. We've integrated the Game API which shows rich details about the game being played during a live stream. It's easier to hide the stream chat and stream info, giving you a fully impressive experience.

Articles /articles

We added a dedicated section for long-form articles, allowing users to publish and read in-depth content. Articles support rich formatting, images, and links, making it easy to share detailed information and stories. It has now been removed from the default feeds.

Summary /summary

This is a powerful feature that provides users with an hourly, daily or weekly summary of their activities, interactions, and important updates on the platform. It presents a compressed timeline view that makes it easy to catch up on what you've missed.

Messages /messages

Improved support for remote signer, relying on a queue system to ensure the relays and signer is not overwhelmed with requests. Nostria is already behaving well with extension signers, avoiding many popups before the user interacts. Added search for messages, making it easier to find specific conversations.

Notifications /notifications

Improved the display of notifications, showing preview for all kinds of events. Added search for notifications, making it easier to find specific interactions.

Discover /discover

New section to discover content, profiles and more. Each category contains curated lists to help you find interesting content and people to follow.

Publish Media

There is a new option to publish media content. This is a simpler way to share images and videos. When you publish media, your content is then optimized for display in apps that support media events. Nostria will automatically post a short form post with a preview of the media, making it discoverable across all types of Nostr clients. You find it when you click the "+" button to create a new post. You can quickly capture a photo with your phone and publish in seconds.

Remote Signer

Improved support for remote signer through client-initiated connection. This allows users to connect to their remote signer by simply scanning a QR code, without needing to manually enter connection details.

Content Reveal

You can now choose ‘Always reveal content from this user,’ which lets you automatically see their media even if you don’t follow them.

Profile Discovery

Nostria is built on the outbox model, which makes it possible to scale globally with ease. Everyone can post on their own relays, anywhere in the world, and still be discoverable by others. Unfortunately a lot of users on Nostr have been moving across multiple relays, often not bringing with them their profile information (and other events). With Nostria 2.0, we have implemented a robust profile discovery mechanism that will find a user profile, even when it's not available on the user's own relays - and then automatically publish their profiles to their relays, making them easily discoverable by others.

Calendars

The world is big and it has many languages and cultures. To better support this diversity, we've added support for multiple calendar systems in Nostria 2.0. Users can now choose their preferred calendar system, such as Gregorian, Chronia (13 months) and Ethiopian. While the whole app is not translated to all supported languages yet, we did add Spanish and French just recently. There is so much new features added still, so when there is less new stuff, we will focus more on translations.

Premium

We've given some love to our Premium subscription service, adding new features and benefits for our subscribers.

YouTube /youtube

Premium users can now add YouTube channels in the app, to get a distraction free experience when watching videos.

Memos /memos

Memos allows you to keep private notes and thoughts, which are only visible to you.

Analytics (Beta) /analytics

Get insights into your profile's performance, including follower growth, engagement metrics, and content reach. This is early preview of the feature, it will get many improvements over time.

Backup /backup

Added an automatic backup of your following lists. This will help you avoid loosing your follows, which can happen when you use the same account across multiple clients. If you get into trouble one day, you can either restore an older list or merge (combine) your current list with the backup.

Nostr clients relies on media servers and these can transcode (optimize) your video while you upload, yet it cannot transcode on the fly when streaming, so it cannot optimize to different video sizes.

The challenge of replacing YouTube is a great one, it needs some new innovation for that. So you can upload videos, but usually limited how large files you can upload and user's might spend a lot more bandwidth than is really needed.

That is the question! When we see if there is some aggregation of music on certain relays, we'll add it to the default configuration under Music so people will discover more. Right now we suggest adding at least the two defaults we've added to find music.

We added the ability to configure relays specifically for music discovery (and streams). Now you can discover more music, without having to add these relays to your own account relays.

Many other improvements have been added, including "Publish Event" for tracks and playlists, giving you the ability to ensure your own (and other's) tracks are available on your own relays. We've seen that tracks are distributed differently depending on the music app you're using, so this is a great way to ensure everyone will discover your music.

Added track replacement! You can now edit existing track and simply drag and drop an updated music file and it will update. It will even ask if you want to delete the existing audio file and the existing album art from your media library, so you don't have to clean it up manually. How great ain't that?

It's all about the relays yes, that's where the data is stored. I think you have a few issues to work on.

From the front page, if I click sondreb (nprofile…v3se) profile, it plays the very first song uploaded (Happy Clappy) and nothing else. Opening up his profile, it shows a different song (Invisible Cages).

- Extracts other metadata from the file.
- Attempts to automatically detect if AI Generated and toggle for you.
- Drag and drop of both track and album art.

This makes it smooth and easy to publish your tracks. Just choose your file, then publish for the world to enjoy and look at the zaps keep coming!

Tip: If you make a mistake, you can open "Media", which is your media files. Here you will find the extracted album picture and the music file. You can manually delete, and try again. Get a tool like "Mp3tag" to modify your .mp3 files before uploading.

These playlists are currently used to build lists of YouTube music videos, videos, podcasts, etc.

It is not using nodecast, this is relying on a nostr-native NIP that was authored by holokat (nprofile…swp5). It doesn't rely on any external APIs or services, which is why it's so good!
