Raised Lutheran and as a sem grad I agree that Jesus and John the Baptist were apocalyptic prophets. Bad thing to be then as they were both executed. Heavy Roman rule on the edges of empire, with Sadducees in charge of local Jewry in Jerusalem didn't help. Especially couldn't during Passuch (Passover) time when the population swelled.
