Strategies are not plans, neither real theories, they're something in between. It's more a set of manoeuvres for advancement.

The best way to counter it is, simply put, to form a counter strategy.

Part of the issue is the unequal division of fruits of labor: people lack time and attention, or are induced to feel that way. Big money gets more sway.

Both consumerism and meaningless jobs create a cycle of exasperation. Meaningless is demeaning and drives down labor cost.

These mechanisms seem to form an re-enforcing cycle.

This is I think at the core a problem of neoliberalism. It is Anglo-Saxon I think, and don't count out the Dutch ;-)

Yes. It used to be that people paid for newspapers. My financial contribution was an act of trust that newspapers would sort and package information.

Similarly my contribution to a political party was an act of trust.

This bond of trust gave me a sense of connectedness and belonging.

Lack of trust, with that lack of willingness to pay, allowed manoeuvres that accelerated the cycle.

The point is, as a society we did not keep our eyes on the ball. And big money is exploiting that.

Sketching some solutions, far from perfect. From my experience in design, the more constraints there are, the smaller the solution space becomes.

And that is a good thing. A large solution space suggests many solutions. In a small solution space a design becomes more obvious.

There are two connected solution parts that are interesting:
1. Organizing feedback loops in science, including review

And CEO #AlexKarp displays inhuman and aggressive rhetoric towards Europe, while the company itself advertises the “optimization of the kill chain.”

These are all facts, repeatedly verified and published by renowned media outlets. Our research relating to Switzerland and Zurich is based on this.

In addition to analyzing documents, we also spoke to various sources – including Palantir executives here in Zurich. The quotes used were presented to them and approved. Of course, we always adhered to the high standards of journalistic work. We conducted a thorough fact check before publication.

But the company doesn't want us to write the truth.

After the US company owned by right-wing tech billionaire #PeterThiel dedicated an absurd blog post to us, claiming some misinformation (such as that they had not participated in official tenders with the federal administration, a point we never claimed. On the contrary: we spoke from the outset of attempts to establish contact, sales talks, informal meetings, business as usual), after the Global Director of Privacy & Civil Liberties (PCL) Engineering and contact person for Swiss media Courtney Bowman launched personal attacks against us in LinkedIn comments between Christmas and New Year (“partisan fear-mongering”), Palantir's Swiss lawyers demanded a counterstatement on December 29.

We rejected this in its entirety.

In January, they demanded the same thing again. We rejected it again.

And now we see each other in court.

But why all this?

Our research on the Swiss army report caused a huge international media response. The Guardian and the Austrian newspaper Der Standard reported on the Swiss army's rejection. Numerous financial portals and stock market magazines picked up our news (which could have consequences for the overvalued stock market company Palantir).

And Chaos Computer Club spokesperson Constanze Kurz presented our research to a huge audience at the renowned IT conference Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg at the end of December.

All of this is making Palantir nervous.

I am observing that the challenges you bring forward have parallels with for example the money system, the media system, and social media at large.

For me this tells something. A lot of the challenges are not unique, perhaps the expertise part is. Again not claiming a solution here.

My intuition is that science is currently organized like a helio-centric Newtonian model. As if science is like building a clock, adding precision parts in a oversee-able whole.

It is the same there. Everyone not executing has been removed. Companies often have no knowledge of how their primary business functions. Big decisions are based on large consultancy templates.
