It's timing is off with regard to Napoleon. The French Revolution didn't happen till after the American Revolution, and Napoleon's rise later still.

And Napoleon was not any more of a tyrant than most of his ancien regime opponents that were (with the exception of Britain) absolute monarchies. And Napoleon's armies and administrators did help spread the Republican notions which influenced Europe for the better (also the metric system)
