I finally realized what the infamous “yeah-no” probably means after listening to Matt Taibbi use something similar in his Substack show with Walter Kirn. He says “yeah, I know” which is perhaps what was eventually shortened to “yeah-no”. He also uses “you know” as a filler whereas his “yeah, I know” is always as a response to what the other person just said. The “I” is almost silent and was perhaps eventually dropped in common parlance. So it’s actually “yeah-know”, not “yeah-no”.

One of the lessons I learnt many years ago was never to get stuck behind a truck carrying durian to the market. In the late 80s, the highway from Malaysia to Singapore was essentially a 2-laner. And full of durian-laden trucks. God forbid if you ever got stuck behind one of them and no opportunity for miles to pass them. Durian is an acquired taste. I daresay one can never acquire a liking to the smell of durian.

Pretty hilarious. But, to be fair to JCD, OS/2 was solid compared to Windows 1 and 2, especially with the addition of Presentation Manager. It was sluggish, had limited features in the GUI, and rarely crashed.

The iOS version has developed a problem where it stops playing in the background under some weird circumstances, such as switching to another app. The only recourse is to terminate the Fountain app, open another app to do a full context switch, then reopen Fountain in order to have it work as expected. It reminded me of Just a Minute and I went down memory lane, unfortunately down a rabbit hole, actually. Turns out one of the guests/participants in the show - Clement Freud (Sigmund’s grandson) - was posthumously found to be a serial pedophile. Never thought I’d go down that path to find these details. No doubt they are highly skilled, even very athletic, but it's again pushing the envelope. I saw Rhythmic gymnastics where a woman danced to Thriller.
