1. it'd be cool if a whole instance could set a default opt-out. (it'd also be cool if single users of that instance could still opt in, but that's less important.)

2. I can imagine disabling "search engine" indexing but still wanting to opt in to Holos Discover: if I don't want to be on web search engines but do want to be on ActivityPub-native search engines. this is a limit of the profile option granularity, but as an interactive bot, Holos could work around it…

the DNI list is pretty solid, almost no domains that I'd not block myself as someone who prefers minimal fediblock.

IFTAS has other lists; their 80% list is a good start for manually vetted pre-emptive blocking. anything below that (eg the 50% list) I'd not likely use, certainly not in an automated way.

I keep thinking I should really play NetHack for real after dabbling since the early 1990s, so I'm prob not the best person to ask. I seem to get into a video game once or twice a decade.

I really wonder how different my life would be if the first family computer was something other than a Compaq Deskpro with CGA graphics and an amber CRT. going online was pretty much the only option for fun on that beast.

in other words, the icons shouldn't look normal in the case of remote fetched toots, because if they do, then users will expect them to behave normally

edit: now that I load the conversation today, the emoji render, but they were very persistently not rendering yesterday. :shrug_akko:

every single month I have to shepherd the prescriptions I've been taking for nearly a decade thru the glorious American health care system, and every single month somebody whose job it is to get those pills into my hands without interruption fucks it up. as a result, every single month my dwindling reserve of medication which I maintain for the purposes of buffering me against the life-altering impacts of other people's lack of care & concern grows smaller.

it's still pretty small, with fairly fragmented communities, in that a given topic might have 6 communities on various instances, 4 or 5 of which are completely or mostly dead. #threadiverse
