Back to the mid-1990s and I'm sure earlier, it was a place a class of criminals commuted to from Maryland and Virginia because the chances of getting caught were much lower, and the punishment was also much lower if caught, including no likely death penalty (still could be done by the Feds, but that was in a practical moratorium for a long time. country wide until the end of Trump 1.0).

One of the 2024 Presidential campaign's most effective ads was "Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you." So important it has a _long_ Wikipedia article.

Sure, _this_ particular issue was probably not number one for most Trump voters, but at minimum it crystallized what pollster are now investigating as the doom of the Democratic party, that most people in the US believe it is not for them, but for other people.

Doom because Obama _did_ "fundamentally change" the party, and most of what's left of it is either trapped in a holiness spiral or is caught between that faction and their constituents. Internal polling in the Blue north east must be beyond grim if you look at the list of people who voted for cloture for the House's continuing resolution and the final vote, and other reports like Kirsten Gillibrand of NY being heard screaming outside a caucus's meeting door about it.

That said, even seven failures reviewed in an 2016 paper says nothing about whether grooming can work, just that it didn't in those cases. _Does_ suggest at minimum the "learning theory of homosexuality" has limits.

One other factor: the Democratic party is so depleted by terrible leadership starting with Obama that they have no credible alternative to the House continuing resolution (which also is almost entirely a continuation of "Biden's" budget before reconciliation and/or rescission maybe modifies it). Schumer's offer was a thirty day stopgap while they'd negotiate something better.

He didn't as I recall offer what would be better, let alone get enough Republican votes, and with his party loudly and violently refusing to work with Republicans in any way it had no credibility for anyone with a clue. At the moment, and not knowing these sorts of details for real, I'm wildly guessing _Concord_ on Steam is going to gross well under $5K (after refunds, and I don't know how many discounted or free copies are represented in the player base).

What's Value's gross and net takes on those sorts of numbers? For former I'm guessing they pretty much only have to pay electricity to host the game ... well, Sony's so big they probably have at least a fraction of a sales/marketing type to manage that general relationship ... Valve will probably make ~~money~~ pocket change on this. Probably the same net after you count capitalization of software development (now required by the US government! Don't worry, it's primarily hurting our enemies), whatever for their server fleet (do they own that, or rent??), etc.

That said, Valve provides a marketplace with a _great_ deal of discovery capabilities, and refunds if you immediately don't like a game, so it's really up to consumers to decide if something is shovel ware or better. As the latter are demonstrating with it's low, low concurrent user numbers, which Valve also helpfully supplies so we know _Concord_ is a contender for ___the biggest media flop in all of history.___
