The point of the Gemini protocol is that it is really simple and robust and designed with a very specific purpose in mind. HTTP, on the other hand, is everything but simple. And although you can of course use nothing but simple HTML, it still feels very different from writing Gemtext, since HTML is interspersed with markup, even in simple cases.<br/><br/>Also, just consider the insane complexity of (almost all) web browsers. In contrast, you can write a minimal Gemini browser in a couple of days (and similarly with respect to servers), because the specification of the protocol is so simple.<br/><br/>No need to argue about this, though.
