There is no extensions API. Extensions are monkey-patching GNOME Shell, they are directly modifying the shell itself, so everything in GNOME Shell is 'part of the extension API'. This makes them very powerful and enables many of the crazy extensions, but also means that they break when the shell internals change.

As far as I know it's called captive portal.

I know, but the solution to a feature not working well, shouldn't be to add yet another setting. You are effectively just solving the issue for those who either already know about the setting when it is added (i.e. the bug reporter) or those who manually search through the settings, which a minority of users. All other users will be left with a buggy feature.
It would be much better to solve the root issue of the feature not working as intended, improving it for everyone.

For sure, but I think most of the settings can be avoided. For your example, I doubt users want to actually constantly toggle the GPU acceleration on and off. A better solution would be to enable it by default (not my métier, but I think that's something most people prefer) and possibly disable it based on a few hidden parameters, e.g. low-battery/power-saving mode, high GPU usage, etc.

I'm so tired of FOSS apps adding every possible feature and settings to configure everything. It really destroys the UX for users and makes it hard for new users to use the application effectively.
It's hard to contribute effectively to these applications because contributions are more likely to introduce bugs, harder to discuss and harder to test.

I'd kind of like to fork them, switch to the proper default and remove the setting, just so you can actually use them.

After almost a year since the last release, a new version of #Eyedropper is now available.
It now features a color editor, allowing to directly modify picked colors, a new warning page for unsupported systems (Thanks to Brage Fuglseth (npub10ew…chty) for the illustration) and a rewritten color conversion backend.

My MR which implements a new image mounting dialog for #GNOME Disks in #Rust has been merged 🎉

The new dialog allows not only to mount and view disk images, but also to edit, inspect, write or, if the disk image is already mounted, unmount it.
