Just finished ‘The Unfolding of Language’ by Guy Deutscher.

I love it.

I’ve learnt loads about the structure of language.

E.g.:

In most languages it’s easy to turn a noun into a verb: ‘Alice skins a cow’.
But turning a verb into a noun often requires adding letters: ‘move’ - ‘movement’. Or in Dutch: ‘bewegen’ - ‘beweging’.

Great dystopian novel, set in Ireland. Booker prize winner in 2023.

The writing is a tad experimental, e.g. no separate paragraphs. Usually I dislike that, but in this book it works well.

Tonight I leave for Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) for a week.

I will visit Enkhtsetseg Enkhbaatar, Bayalagmaa Bayaraa, and Narantuya Ganbat and colleagues at the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia.

We will discuss how Mongolia can regulate social media.

(I bought new boots, because the main daily minimum temperature, celsius, is minus 15 in November.)
