Today, I am, what people would call a policy maker. But I come fro the tech world. And I feel the policy world is much more eager to learn from the tech world than the other way round.

Just reiterating how dumb policymalers are is not actually going help. What is going to help are statements that actually create context and understanding and accepting the fact that tech maybe also should understand a bit of policy and governance.

I keep hearing Tech is neutral, these CEOs are bad and the stupid politicians don't understand a thing. I have hardly ever heard people working in tech asking what implications does our work have.

Yes, it's big money that decides, but it is every engineer working on that stuff that has its part, and that maybe could ask what are the effects of this? Did we think of the wider implications. There are as many bad policy makers as there are bad engineers, and as many good policy makers as good engineers.

yes, but China also promotes a class society, where increasingly an elite lives a good life and the rest is oppressed. I don't think the Chinese model is the alternative, it's authoritarian too, even if it gets many things right.

It's not just about funding STEM, it's about a fait based and fair society, and I know that's easier said than done.

And yes they play with people's desire to be important.

welcome to the club. It seems to me, that governments in Europe see IT as a nuisance not an opportunity nor do they seem to understand that the cloud doesn't just come out of an Ethernet cable. And they seem to fall for the "the data center is in our jurisdiction and we have a contract" fallacy.

If you say this doesn't protect you, you're called paranoid and accused of being overly critical.

I don't think these people read the websites. They likely crawl it and flag for keywords like mathematics PhD and E-Mail address.

It's the same with headhunters that offer me junior SOC positions. They obviously never read my LinkedIn profile.

Same goes for these scam "You habe been selected as top 10 CEO" and fore a donation of 2500$ we print an article in a journal no one has ever heard of. I'm not a CEO.

Once I got such a mail where they forgot to fill out the template, it had place holders like {{Organisation}}.

the event horizon is a not a local concept, it only makes sense in the context of the full spacetime. It's the surface from which nothing can escape to infinity. This is not the same as nothing can make it to you.

Think of the following situation: You're falling to a small black hole outside its event horizon. So clearly, you can see your outstretched arm. Later, I.e in your future, a gigantic object falls in. This now extends the event horizon, and you're suddenly inside. This is because the horizon is a spacetime property, not a local one.

Only in a static spacetime do local and global horizons agree. But the local one is kind of fictitious
