Cool! So you set the stage for what Erin did- she worked at the cape (just moved to Littleton to make GPS) testing electrical components as they were installed on the crew module, so some portion of her time was spent working in the ship, but a lot of it was writing test procedures, staring at computers or waiting for them to run. 🙂

They had a bad sensor reading in the abort system at about -45 minutes, and this is where they had to do an “Is it the thing that the sensor reads, or is it just the sensor that’s sending bad data?” They ran it down pretty quickly and looked at previous data from that sensor, other redundant sensors, and concluded that the thing was fine, it was just the sensor. Might have heard them read through this on tv. This is the sort of work she did in the test phase of all those bazillion parts- dissecting data, writing the procedures
to test the things, and certifying the tests. Erin’s not part of the launch team- Orion hands the vehicle off to NASA and it’s out of their hands once they start stacking in the VAB. Those guys in mission control were basically doing the same thing, live with a fully fueled rocket. Nerves of steel, and they were right. They were able to make the right call because of all the work the test engineers put in during assembly. Erin was in some ways responsible for that data. That was a kinda tense moment, but we are on our way!

I was high as fuck on life because we played really well to a packed house, got a pretty resounding encore, and it took me 15 minutes to get to the bathroom through people thronging to say how much they enjoyed the show. (I know, right??)

mine came out to see the band. He sat with my wife because he knows her, who was sitting with the guitarist’s wife and… her unattached friend. They chatted a bit & he bought her a drink, which caused a couple raised eyebrows, but that’s all.

Last night he came out to see us again, and since my wife didn’t make it, he sat alone at a table a ways off from guitarist’s wife &… unattached friend.

As I was packing up post-gig, I noticed that they had moved to the bar together and were deep in conversation. I didn’t see it happen, but I think she moved towards him. 🙂

But yeah, old houses… ours was built in 1938, and it still has the breaker box from then, plus the “new” one installed in the 60’s. Starting tomorrow morning, they’re coming to replace all of the above plus the main service outside from the pole. Flak is a tiny label - a one-man operation with a roster of about 10 Austin bands - but he has been going all out getting us in-store appearances, getting the “new music” radio shows to play our singles, and fuck me but people are showing up and the thing is selling. The last 4 gigs we’ve done supporting the record have been a shit-ton of fun. 2 standing ovations from a sold-out Cactus Cafe can go to a guy’s head. 🤪 We played a pretty big room tonight and got a nice encore from the crowd there too. Carey looked like a drug dealer after the gig with the pile of cash from the tip jar on a table in back. 😄

Last year on a whim, I started asking attendees at the Texas Cavers Runion if they would like to sit for portraits, because I had nothing better to do. Quite a few people took me up on it, and it came out great, so this weekend, I am upping my game. I have signage, a better stool for people to sit, 3 rolls of Delta 100 for the Canon AE-1 and 14 sheets of HP5 loaded up for the 4X5 view camera. Gonna set up a table and really work this. Portraits are extremely not my thing, and this takes me way out of my comfort zone, but it’s great practice.

I went ahead and paid for Ivory because it most easily recreated the Tweetbot environment that I lived in for years. I don’t know why, but I find myself resisting the migration of *everything* to browser-based. I think command+tab is probably to blame- I use it whenever I want to change tasks, accidentally often enough, when both of those tasks are in different browser tabs to annoy myself daily.

This is where I use the shruggy emoji because I’m getting just kind of resigned to everything having to change all the time just for the sake of people looking busy. 🤷🏻‍♂️
