That matters because VPNs are not some shady loophole. The UK's own NCSC describes them as encrypted connections used by organisations to secure remote access and protect data in transit.

The polling being waved around is shaky, too. The YouGov question was not "should VPNs be banned for everyone?" It asked whether under-18s should be banned from using VPNs, and 25% answered: "don't know". That is a thin foundation for pushing broader restrictions.

Then there's privacy. Ofcom and the ICO both say age assurance involves personal data, often via third-party providers, and that firms must minimise data and do due diligence. That is exactly why so many people are uneasy about handing over passports, scans, or other sensitive information to use ordinary online services.

I get that HSBC has a duty to keep accounts secure. Nobody is arguing against fraud protection. But scanning your device for unrelated apps, judging where they came from, then locking you out of your own money crosses a serious line.

Bitwarden is a respected, open source password manager. Treating that as suspicious behaviour is absurd. Worse, it sets a precedent where banks decide what software you’re allowed to run on your own phone. That’s not security, that’s control.

If access to your money depends on complying with a bank’s idea of “approved thinking”, then something has gone badly wrong. This is exactly why people are losing trust in centralised systems and looking for alternatives.

This removes the social fear instantly. He is not “the weird kid with a hacker email”, he is just using a better tool quietly.

Something really special happened today, at least special to me.

I mentioned Raspberry Pi while visiting friends, and their 10 year old immediately jumped in and explained what it was. A small computer. Linux. Programming.

Making a website and hosting it herself. All things she’s learning at school.
That alone made my day.

We then spent the next hour talking about what I’ve hosted, what I’ve broken, and what I’m learning. She was genuinely curious and excited. By the end of it, she asked if for her birthday I could help her get a Raspberry Pi 500+ kit so we can learn Linux and self hosting together.

I don’t plan on having kids of my own, by choice, but being able to share this curiosity and give kids tools instead of locked down platforms feels incredibly meaningful.

If the next generation is being taught how computers actually work, there’s still hope for autonomy, creativity, and control.

That moment made my entire day.

A friend replied saying this has never really been a crypto friendly administration.

At first I pushed back. We have ETFs, institutional adoption, big bills being passed, lots of surface level progress. But the more I sat with it, the more I wondered if he might be right.

ETFs do not put Bitcoin in people’s hands. They put it in the hands of banks and institutions. Exposure without ownership. Price without sovereignty.

When institutions buy, governments gain leverage. Regulation follows. Pressure follows. Control creeps back in.

Then you have MicroStrategy and Saylor. One entity accumulating huge amounts of Bitcoin, issuing shares, becoming a single point of narrative and risk. Now MSCI moves to exclude companies primarily tied to digital assets. Suddenly the “never sell” stance may face external pressure.

Put together, it starts to feel coordinated. Not to kill crypto outright, but to neutralise it. To absorb it into systems that can be influenced, regulated, and eventually controlled.

Bitcoin was meant to be outside that system. What happens when the system learns to wrap itself around it?

Just thinking out loud.

My goal is not just to mirror content, but to make what I create work naturally within the Nostr ecosystem where identity, reach and interaction are not owned by a platform.
