A produce market will have just the pods, similar to how fresh snow peas are sold, for example. There is a large outdoor produce stand on a farm here that was selling the whole bundle. Usually it is 1 chickpea / garbanzo per pod but sometimes it can be 2. It is a rarity to find them fresh so it is always exciting. I once had a restaurant salad w/fresh ones in the Hamptons.
