I’m kind of at my wit’s end about something, and out of desperation I’m reaching out hoping someone might have a clue about what to do about a strange thing that’s happening with my iPhone. In a moment of insanity, I agreed to get put on the board of our homeowner’s association. I was added to a text group with the other board members. Now here’s where it gets weird. I’m not getting any of the messages in the group. They have my phone number right, and they get messages I send, but I see none of theirs. Unless, I power down and restart my phone, in which case all the messages come flooding in. Then, I stop receiving them again, until I repeat the powering off and rebooting. I’m part of several other threads, and this is the only one where this is happening. I wonder if it has anything to do with some of the group not using iPhones? I don’t know, I’m just trying to find a solution, and I really don’t want to make a trip to the Apple store. I feel like this is such an outlier. Has this ever happened to anyone else? It absolutely makes me want to throw things every time I see some yahoo talking about how they don’t hate immigrants, they just need to do it the right way. Right now, there ostensibly is no right way, because all avenues are being blocked. And even those who have been doing it the so-called right way are being snatched up and deported.

7 #Democrats voted for it. I can only conclude that they’re perfectly okay with what’s going on in Minnesota. At this point I really don’t know what to do with that. I mean, it feels like the Dems are the last best hope to somehow hold the line, but some of them are too busy still trying to find common ground or maybe even collaborating, I don’t know.

I’m afraid that Sirius/XM has achieved indispensable status for me. It’s not just the music channels. I listen to NFL, NHL and MLB games through the service, also listen to certain shows like Thom Hartman. So, even though they gave Megyn Kelly her own bloody channel, I’m keeping the subscription.

The looming cutoff of #SNAP benefits for 42 million Americans, 40% of them children, has brought out the cruelty and heartlessness in spades. It’s really freaking easy, from a vantage of privilege, to tell these folks to just go get a job. And some people have the nerve to gripe about their tax dollars going to people on SNAP. Cry me a bloody river. You know, these days especially, I’m not particularly happy about how my tax dollars are being spent, what with government kidnappings and shooting tear gas into crowds of kids and murdering people on the high seas whose only crime could very well be being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Guess what? None of us have a say how our tax dollars are spent. And you know how much of your tax dollars goes to SNAP? $36. Yep, basically the price for a dinner for two at Cracker Barrel. I think that’s money well spent if it keeps people from starving, but that’s just me. I know others might disagree. Oh, what a world we live in!

This does not please me. I am deluged with texts on a daily basis that read like ransom demands. If I don’t send $20 before midnight, etc. It’s all up to you, blah blah. I refuse to give another dime until the #DNC gets their act together. They’ve got my vote, what choice do I have, but not my money. Unfortunately enough people will probably also withhold their vote to the point where it makes a negative difference. #Dems need to step up!

Once when I was in college, I was waiting for my now ex wife in the lobby of the music building while she had a voice lesson. In another one of the practice rooms someone was practicing their piano. For a solid hour, I heard “Yesterday” over and over again, always with the same mistake in the same place. If I had theard them play it right I would have given them a one-person standing ovation.

Just picked my way through this whole thread. For me it’s as straightforward as it gets. The #Dems are not #authoritarian #fascist lunatics. That’s all I need to know. #Gaza and #GenocideJoe and Jill Stein and all the rest got us this dystopian nightmare. We had one job last November; hold off the oncoming terror. And we blew it. We completely blew it. Because too many of us were caught up in our own issues and projects and whatever. Please don’t misunderstand me. What is happening in #Gaza is beyond horrific. But, once again, wouldn’t it have been better to vote for the person who wasn’t planning to turn #Gaza into the Mira Lago of the Mediterranean? I’m not sure I’ll ever get over my anger about last November.

We have a friend who is from #Pakistan here on a student visa. My wife and I are both very frightened for them. It almost feels inevitable that a simple routine trip to an #ICE office for whatever reason could turn into having them whisked away, even though they’re here legally. That doesn’t seem to matter anymore. We’re trying to come up with things we could do to support them.

Today was quite a challenging day for yours truly. Not only did I have to waste 3.5 hours of a perfectly good day just sitting around in a waiting room to obtain my state ID, but there were also several instances where I was infantalized because of my disability. I know blind folks are a minority, and many people may never have an encounter with one, but for me the major prevailing rule is, if you don’t understand something or are not sure how to handle a situation, just ask. First, we do not bite. Also, it’s a heck of a better look than interacting with the person who happened to drive me there instead of, oh I don’t know, actually talking to me. I’m going to bed now and hope tomorrow is better. #GoodNight #HoldFast

I hate to agree with this, but I must. Apathy does reign supreme. I fear people won’t bother taking to the streets in protest because at least many of them don’t want to risk losing their creature comforts. And others just can’t be bothered. Even now, I’m having some family and friends telling me it’s not worth losing relationships over “politics”. There was a time, not too long ago, when I more or less agreed with this. No more! I cannot in good conscience keep silent to keep the peace. This is not just politics anymore, it’s real life, and the consequences are dire. The last thing I want to do is make trouble, it’s not in my DNA to do so. But I have to. It’s about self-preservation, and if that makes people uncomfortable, maybe they need to feel uncomfortable.

This is just a lament that #AltText isn’t used more universally. Some of the accounts I follow on here are rather prolific posters, and much of what they post are unlabeled graphics. For those of us who use screenreaders to access content, #AltText would make life a lot easier, since screenreaders for the most part can’t handle graphics. As a result, all I often get is my speech synthesizer saying the word image. Part of me doesn’t even want to bring this up, because it makes me feel like a schmo to ask people to do an extra step when they’re already trying to put out a lot of content. But, that being said, I’d like to have full access to that content as well, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. #A11Y

I’ve never had a fear of flying. I know people who actually have a paralyzing fear of it. One of my dearest friends, sadly now deceased, would never fly even if they needed to travel cross-country. They’d take three days on the train, there and back. Yet I’ll be taking off in less than 12 hours and I’m feeling uneasy. Admittedly this has more to do with the idea that I might forget something crucial and not think of it until it’s too late. It’s happened. (1/2)

We got it set up so we’ll get our #absentee ballots in the mail. This makes me happy. When we voted in 2020, there was a line out the courthouse door, and it took us an hour and a half to even get to the room where the voting machines were. It’s hard to not think it’s getting harder and more inconvenient by design, but maybe I don’t know everything.
