It's annoying when you're not used to it. I guess you refer to the topic i started, but in my experience people learn to appreciate it fast. My team never worked like that before, and grumbled quite a lot when i made a global ban on exceptions. 8 months later or so, they themselves would never go back again. And i went NUCLEAR on error handling:
1) no exceptions
2) each module has its error types that must not be shared
3) a module that's used by another has to deal with it? Well it better has errors that represents "this submodule failed that way", 2) still stands
4) When handling errors, exhaustive when/switch cases are mandatory, no else clause.
The first pass is the hardest, but once you have done all of this, there is such a level of confidence in your code, you can think about everything entirely locally to the function you're working with, it's worth everything.

Like, look how insane this game was:
- A random character from the movie would be the infected crew member and birth the alien
- A random character would be the android that would try to make your survival fail
- You had multiple ways to win: killing the alien (very hard but doable), flushing the alien to space, escaping the nostromo with the shuttle after activating the self-destruct sequence (but you had to bring the cat with you)
- Alien could go through vent, so do you
- The characters could ignore your orders if they were too stressed
The replayability was absolutely insane for a game from 1984.

I wish i had enough time to RE the Alien game on Commodore 64 and recreate it somehow, just with a more intuitive interface. It's such an insane game for the time, ahead of its time in multiple ways.

Sure, but the whole point of the initiative is that now they should think about it before. If that's the only effort that has to be done, chances are they might even have some benefits from it.
Also with AI tools now generating a half-assed doc from your code would still be enough.

one of the possible solutions proposed by stop killing games was to just document the client interfaces so server software can be reimplemented iirc. Even poor documentation would be enough.

We haven't checked, but my waifu is a psychologist for kids so she knows what to do. Not that it makes it easier for us but at least we don't have much research to do on the subject.

Life is meaningless with a kid with ADHD. You can't do anything for yourself, as all your life is devoted to just handling the kid. You can't go to any social gathering, because he will invariably bring shame to you, and you will look like a terrible parent. You can't even talk to your partner anymore, as none of you has any time to do anything worth talking about. You can't even free your mind when he's not here, because at school his teachers will hate him and make him feel miserable, even if he doesn't deserve it.

should be able to do an FBA from an arbitrary point in the fast ram after copying stuff i guess then. I don't know much about GBA so I wouldnt be surprised if there are some subtle things around that make it incompatible with FBA but it could be useful already.
You can also try to use a BoundedArray to have a fixed buffer, copy your functions using the provided writer, then make a FBA out of the slice given by unusedCapacitySlice, that would avoid some calculations.

Once again, i'm not saying that C should be kept as is in the kernel, or that zig should be used in the kernel. The only thing i said is that you're making assumptions on zig that are plainly false because you don't know enough about it. I agree wholeheartedly on using rust in the kernel.
Keep doing your fantastic work. I have a M1 mac around and have been waiting for the occasion of trying asahi linux since a while.
But just, maybe, avoid talking about things you don't know enough about.

And i prefer to avoid things happening too much magically under my code. Writing a deinit function for a custom object is a sensible thing to do. And it would be possible to make a generic deinit method actually (just make the compiler iterate over each member, if(hasFn(T, "deinit")) item.deinit()). The reason because it's not done by default in the std lib is about giving the choice of control about how and when something is freed. Your need might not be the same need for everyone.

Wrong, deinit has been explicitely used as the method when freeing a strutcure, and is an approach that is in use in every library you'll find, including std.

This test would fail to run if there were any leak, that's what the testing allocator is for.
hasFn is also completely solved at compile time so there is no extra overhead for the list if it has no need to be deinit.
You've been talking about about zig recently, and i'm sorry to be blunt but you've been wrong on a lot of things.
First, zig is to C what rust is to C++. Trying to compare both language when they do not live in the same paradigm (one being imperative, the other object oriented) is simply a bad idea.
You should probably stop fueling the fire and showing that you haven't taken the proper time to explore zig.
I'm not telling you to use zig if you don't want to or that zig is better than rust. Programming languages are tool that fit many uses, and different approaches. If you were more confident in the results of your code using Rust, it's perfectly fine. Just like if someone else could have made it in zig.
But just like i avoid making bold assumptions about rust considering my lack of deep knowledge and experience on it, maybe you should also abstain from doing the same?
Don't feed the trolls, the only answer for the question "why not zig" should have been "because rust fits the needs i have as a developper, and the use case as a tool for what i'm doing".

I don't necessarily want crazy performance, just offloading from the CPU so the rest of my stull can still run.

Note to anyone using heavily docker and wondering why df says your disk is full but du can't find anything big:
docker does not clear volumes even when using `docker system prune -a`.
check your actual docker disk usage with `docker system df` and if local volumes shows a lot of space, run `docker volume prune -a`.
I had 550gb of unused volumes on my work server. :(
