Have police ever intervened in an ICE apprehension?
And if so, how does that go?
I guess there is something political about it - to show that much of what ICE is doing is illegal and force police to make a choice...
But framing this around legality really misses the point. The immigration laws in this country are racist. ICE could follow the law to the T and still be carrying out violent racism.

@nprofile…q5n6 this is the conundrum with the investor owned utility model - we need investment in clean infrastructure and in theory the move to renewables should mean long term lower utility bills.
The reality though, is that a company structured to profit off of people is always going to do that. Our bills will keep going up, while their profits do even more - regardless of where that energy comes from.

I am now officially an iNaturalist ambassador 👨‍🌾🕵️‍♂️🪿🍄🐝🌻
My first project is organizing a BioBlitz (people come together at a place and identify all the living beings they can find) for the marsh near my apartment.
It's happening on April 25th to coincide with the City Nature Challenge.
It will be co-lead with Ryan Bartlett, a local native bee expert, who'll be bringing fun gear to safely catch insects and ID them.
Our findings will lay the groundwork for more intentional stewardship of that land.

Participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count this past weekend.

Also. This is my favorite kind of puzzle - 500 pieces, just enough to tickle my brain without sending me into agony.
And there's enough differentiation in color and pattern to not drive me bonkers spending hours putting together a solid blue sky.
Plus it's a beautiful, comforting landscape that's nice to spend time with.

fun fact: almost rode a bull at a Mexican rodeo, but my guero friends got first shot. The local vaqueros grew impatient seeing these college kids get thrown off immediately, so I missed my shot
I *did* however, get bucked off my host family's horse and landed in a barbed wire fence.

Ok so it is abnormal and people are noticing it across Colorado. The leaves are changing early due to the drought.
Last winter's inadequate snowpack plus this summer's scorching dry weather means trees drank up the available water early, triggering that leaf change already.
Also, the colors we're getting aren't as vibrant.
One contributor to that vibrancy is sunny days and *cool* nights.
It's instead a paler yellow, which adds to the sadness of it all

Our neighborhood association had its annual meeting and I presented our sustainable neighborhood group's vision to transform this park that is a field of old disturbed farmland (lots of alfalfa and invasive weeds) into native grasses, pollinator friendly plants and maybe some nice aquatic plants along the pond.

I agreed with the PSL chants but it also felt like radical posturing rather than reading the crowd and building off of the collective anger latent in the moment.
But that's so much of radical left activism... sigh
The liberal speakers were worse. A lot of "this isn't America..."
And "we're losing our respect and standing in the world."

A labor organizer spoke though and she was badass.
Also the daughter of ICE detained immigrant leader Jeannette Vizgerra. Her speech gave me chills.

And I think we need to build up our street protest infrastructure.
Coordinated groups of folks doing high energy, festive, rebellious shit.
Marching bands
Radicals cheerleaders
Giant puppets
Friend groups willing to kick off chants
Drumlines
Dancers
There's a lot of space for small coordinated groups of friends intervening with their creativity to boost the energy of the folks gathered.

First off I am so glad this happened and the turnouts across the country (and world!) were encouraging.
I hope this is a moment we can build off of.
Here in Denver the vibe of the whole event was weird. Very complicated...
It was very low energy for such a big event. Tepid cheers, very few and sparse chants...
The weather contributed. It was a cold gray sky day.
I also think many of us are in a collective sorrow and shock
And the crowd skewer older, not as many youth and YAs as i expected

#HandsOff protest was BIG in Denver today.

Went to our local #TeslaTakedown protest today. It was the first one ever at the Aurora, Colorado location and the first protest the organizer had ever planned. She said 17 RSVP'd but the turnout was a good 50 strong.
So that is a solid start in my opinion. Everyone I talked to was keen to keep coming back for more protests.
Also, it *looked* like someone was returning their recently bought Tesla while we were there but can't confirm.

Congrats to Kristen Pol on winning the Aaron Winborn Award
Aaron was a big hearted leader in the #Drupal community and I'm 2025 passed away early in his life. This award was created in his honor to recognize one person each year who lives a life of kindness, integrity and generosity in the Drupal community.
I don't know Kristen personally but have attended sessions she's lead and seen her active in key initiatives that I benefit from both at work and with social movement groups I work with.

This #SolarpunkSunday I swapped seeds and starters with my neighbors.
I came home with seeds for pollinator friendly wildflowers, cosmos, cucumbers (my neighbor said they might do well in my yard that is blessed by trees but cursed by shade) and snap peas.

The FLOSS movement has failed to build a true counter power to Big Tech's hegemony.

My thinking is that there's still room for making MayFirst services easier to use and we'll gain more traction right now by focusing on that than political programming would, but they're not mutually exclusive and should both keep happening.
I'm encouraged with how we doubled new members last year and gave all the May First staff raises.
We got a new logo and have a redesigned website coming soon.

we have board elections going on right now and all the candidates do incredible work at the intersection of technology and justice.
I ended up voting for the seven I found to have the most concrete and clear vision for the coop.
A prevailing theme is improving service delivery and growing membership to help people get off Big Tech

Attended a really good Digital Strategy Summit session yesterday on combating hate narratives, lead by (Rye) Ellis.
My main takeaway is that positive stories are most effective against hate misinformation campaigns (moreso than trying to directly argue the points or counter misinfo with facts)
TransLash does a great job of this.
