AFAIK none of them are friends anymore, which is also related to them having gone off to private schools because the middle school *gasp* has Black kids at it and Black folks living in the neighborhood around it.
Folks who were drawn to HP were drawn to it for a reason.

Rather than withholding it from people who "have the means not to need it", you just have them pay it back in taxes on the additional income they got in some other way.

Came across this again while reviewing some code in #musl iconv: the standard legacy encoding for Korean, EUC-KR/CP949, is grossly underdocumented. Unlike a most other CJK encodings, Wikipedia has basically no information on the actual encoding structure, and WHATWG chooses to specify it as an arbitrary table completely disregarding the structure.
So, a little thread on it, so it's written down somewhere. Maybe someday someone will write a proper article.

If you have a rooted Android, the sysctl disable_ipv6 works on the wifi interface (normally "there's no way to disable it on wifi only cellular" is the answer).
I hate disabling v6 but it's needed to use NewPipe since Google deems most v6 addresses sus and demands logins and/or captchas. 🤬

Question for @nprofile…w92z (and other distros): Is there any tooling in place or proposed to catch and block package version bumps, particularly for important dependencies, that would pull in slop code that might introduce bugs and vulnerabilities? Stuff like checking for commits by known slop agents or presence of known prompt files.
Even if a distro doesn't want to permanently hold these packages back or switch to forks (my preference), it seems like any further version bump now requires detailed review for breakage.

Lazyweb, what's a decent wifi ap/router in the $50-100 price range that works painlessly with OpenWRT? Good antennas, decent speeds, and low power draw (long life on battery backup) are my main criteria. TP-Link would be my normal go-to vendor and I saw some praise for the Archer C7 which I could get for around $60 but I wasn't clear from the OpenWRT wiki if it's reliable.

Current behavior is also reasonable (as long as contract is clearly documented) but poor in terms of hardening. PSA: The Amazon wishlist doxing threat is much greater and more immediate than folks might realize. Attack works like this:
Stalker who wants your address opens an Amazon seller account and lists themselves as a third party seller for any item on your public wishlist. Then, they order the item from themselves as a gift for you. Bam, they have your address.
In particular, attack does not depend on an existing third party seller having poor PII handling hygiene, like the articles have implied.

To "create software just by describing ideas in plain text" is not possible unless the thing has already been done and you're just laundering copying what someone else did without credit. Working out precisely what the sloppy "description in plain text" of what you want it to do actually means is *the whole task* of programming.
In the areas we could have actually made programming easier, we instead made it harder. More gratuitous layers, more steps and tools you have to know, no discoversbility.
"AI" will not fix this. Throwing away garbage (the whole fucking industry) is how you fix this.

We (as FOSS community) should have norms that NIH'd new data formats, protocols, etc. from Facebook, Google, etc. are automatically rejected. IME, clicking on a link to anything that Firefox itself can't display opens up a prompt to save it or starts a download if you have it set to automatic downloads without a save-as dialog.

I deem automatically invoking other programs with something downloaded from the web to be a serious security issue, and on top of that, if the file is large, you end up re-downloading multiple times because the temp file gets deleted, or you accidentally edit the temp file then it gets deleted. Just always download and open separately and intentionally and this is a non-issue.

@nprofile…rx2u There's no good excuse for needing memory safe languages for codecs. Memory safety matters when temporal safety is a hard problem, i.e. complex and unpredictable object lifetimes. A codec should have fixed size working buffers whose lifetimes are all the same (from open to close) and no safety concern but spatial.

You can use any round heater close to the bed size. I'm using a kapton circuit board one, 24V, but it's somewhat underpowered if you want to go above around 75°C. I usually don't run it over 70, so I don't mind. Better insulation below (see: increasing vertical extrusion length) would probably make it go a lot higher without problem.

@nprofile…kt9v The bed itself is 4mm borosilicate from http://www.tridprinting.com/Heated-Bed-Components/ with a magnetic adhesive sheet on top and cut sheet metal, but there are plenty of round pre-made spring steel bed surfaces you can get too.
Delta particularly needs a flat and low-warping bed to calibrate right, so you want the borosilicate. You can also get that on Ali.

@nprofile…kt9v I way overbuilt my original R&D unit out of not knowing where I'd want more performance headroom, so it has the Octopus Pro with H723, 48V, 5160 drivers. Kalico is running on a Le Potato tho and is by far the compute bottleneck. You could totally run it on an SKR E3 mini or something similarly cheap tho.

Many of the same traits and behaviors that overlap with "neurotypicality" also lie on the vast spectrum of neurodiversity, and are not the product of conditioning. But most instances are probably the result of conditioning, to the degree that "neurotypicality" would not be a majority/default if you only included people who just happened to be that way without conditioning.

@nprofile…x38x To be clear though I don't mean to downplay how evil this law is, especially in the context of emergency care where you may not have an opportunity to look for a doctor and are just being seen by whoever is on duty at the ER. 🤬

@nprofile…x38x I have mixed feelings about this. Of course it's evil to deny care to a patient because you don't agree with their "lifestyle". But it's also evil to agree to provide them care, then intentionally do a really poor job of it and put their life in danger because you harbor hate for them. At least this way you know which doctors hate you and can try to find one who actually wants you to live.
Neither is acceptable though. We need proper vetting of doctors, at the educational entry and licensing levels, for hate and even sub-hate-level biases that will affect whether patients get equal care.

@nprofile…4ey9 Protip: If you usually pay on due date via their website, tell the person you get that the website wouldn't let you login, even if you just forgot. It's very believable and impossible for them to disprove. If you don't do it too often you can usually get the fee removed.

It's so weird to me that ppl use and like IDEs.
I'm not writing any code that can't be written just as well with pen & paper on top of a mountain far away from any computer.
If your language, idioms, or frameworks aren't compatible with that, they're a non starter for me.
