Magic Links (just a shittier 2fa) style logins are just fvckin awful, depending on the awful, terrible, and dangerous tech called Email.
What's magic links? It's the thing that sends you email to verify presence.
Can't stress enough how awful everything connected to email is. I lost access to MULTIPLE services because of this shit.
TOTP 2FA is far better and safer.
What's TOTP/HOTP?
HOTP = Hmac-based One-Time Passwords
TOTP = Time-based One Time Passwords
A service, site, app, or your, generate a unique "key" that you have to add into an Authenticator app (like Google Authenticator, Bitwarden, 1password) gives one-time pins/passwords/passcodes. That's done with the magic of cryptography and it's actually safe & secure, proving presence.
TOTP is lovely. It's based on HOTP, where it is based on a counter - the counter should change to be able to get anoother one-time pass/pin/code. TOTP uses time for that counter, and it's actually "one-time" and cannot bruteforce or hack it.
Passkeys are the future. But what's Passkeys?
It's similar to TOTP 2FA, instead it's hardware-based generation. It's a way to sign/verify using cryptography built into your device. Every device nowadays has it. Call it Secure Enclave or whatever - that's it.
Passkeys = biometrics login (face id, touch id, fingerprints)
The State of the art. Resistant to phishing attacks. And so much more.
We are still 1 year before mass adoption, because we are waiting for WebAuthn Level 3 to land.
Until then people land in thhe latest versions of iOS and Android.. USE TOTP 2FA!
We talk about password-less future, but what about email-less?! Every site, app, and service MUST drop emails and passwords. Just username and TOTP code - that's all! That's how TOTP 2FA becomes 1-factor auth that's actually secure.
Here's the catch tho. The greedy assfvcked and broken capitalism never gonna allow dropping email, it's a heaven for marketers and scammers. And YOU, THE PEOPLE, are not what matters. They don't care about you, but your data and spamming you and telling you what to do, what to buy, and what to think.

You gotta instead actually create a bitcoin wallet, have a mnemonic, and derive private key and nsec/npubs and blockchain addresses from it, not the opposite..

Bitcoin is Email.
#Email is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE, public, unstoppable protocol. Actively hurting billions, exploited to the max.
Despite its contribution to the revolution, people will look back at #Bitcoin and dispise it, while trying to use it as less as possible.

Same for the money / #crypto category: there are many, and better, protocols and blockchains than Bitcoin and #Ethereum. You gonna use them, cuz it will be just the new normal global financial system, tho this doesn't mean there's no better options who will fight even against the holy grail called Bitcoin.
Question is, what's the next thing after Bitcoin.
First was the Internet. It brought freedom and free flow of information - anyone, anywhere, can say and write anything for anyone, without any permission.
It brought freedom of information, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of expression, #freedom of thought.
Next was the Bitcoin. It brought even more freedom and free flow of money/value - anyone, anytime, anywhere to transact globally, to exchange their productive capital, without any permission.
Though, they both also brought a perfect environment for total, unbreakable, #surveillance and control, more than anything ever.

so i can use #lightning #bitcoin `lno` and `sp1` addresses instead of "ln address / lnurl"? Like, can i put either of them in the "LN Address" field of Primal for example?
Cuz, i have both Cake and Phoenix wallets loaded with the same mnemonic, resolving to the same nsec, npub, and btc taproot. One (Cake) gives/uses Silent Payments, and the other (Phoenix) gives/uses `lno`.
I can create email-like address from both of them in similar way like TwelveCash does it, right?
And another thing, if we consider all that is true, if someone zap me sats, will they appear in both wallets? I assume not, cuz both gonna be different lightning channels, right?

Funny thing,
I learned about #Nostr about 3-4 years ago, with #Iris and few more.
Then, when i got into #Ordinals in January 2023, i've seen it used in OpenOrdex open source marketplace - #PSBTs traded over Nostr, amazing. Looked over its source, of course - terrible, slow, fully client-side shit. But it did the job in the time.
Now, 2024, here we go again. There's over 100 NIPs, several hundred apps and clients (most with pretty bad experience to me), and a whole crypto value-for-value economy around #Bitcoin and #Lightning. Tho, i don't like Lightning at all.
So.. lets share some apps and things:
- for managing keys - @npub1uf9…v8xc for sure, supports NIP46 / "bunkers"
- for clients - @npub1pls…kx8j and @npub1cur…sh3w
- for the apple fan bois - @npub18m7…q955 and @npub1pu3…tfch
- forget Iris/Snort (same code), Amethyst, and Primal - most promoted but.. blah
- and Noskey - for check all your keys associated/derived from your #Nostr private key - keys like bitcoin/litecoin taproot addresses, public keys, ssh keys, ed25519 keys, nostr git nrepo, hex-ed keys, and etc..
The nip05.social would been cool (same addr for nip5 and LN) if it actually gave verified accounts.. i mean.. i set the wgw@protonostr.com and i don't have a check mark. Tho, i like the cool simple nsec.app domain, until i get a full suite in WGW.lol ;)
