Vanguard Group is almost the definition of institutional investors but they are managing the funds for 50 million individual clients either directly or indirectly through retirement plans. Is it too much money in the hands of too few people? Or is it too many people following the exact same investment strategy (i.e., invest in a representative market basket of stocks)?

The rise of massive index mutual funds like The Vanguard Group has changed the equation a bit since the 1990s. Vanguard Group now owns 7.67% of Tesla stock for example. People park their money in these index mutual funds and the fund manager in return buys a market basket of stocks... and leaves the money there unless rebalancing because relative valuations have changed. This is unprecedented.

The redundancy and connectivity that the cloud offers is hard to replicate in your own on-premise environment. I've read this article multiple times now and it wouldn't work for us. Our production deployed in the cloud because our customers need the redundancy and connectivity we get there. Our R&D environment is in a colo because we don't need that redundancy and connectivity for our R&D environment.
