#Israel ranks second globally, behind only #China, in the number of journalists imprisoned in 2024, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (#CPJ). As of December 1, 2024, 43 journalists were detained in Israel compared to 50 in China and 30 in Russia. Many of the detained journalists in Israel/Palestine are held under administrative detention without formal charges, a practice criticized for violating international human rights law and aimed at suppressing coverage of Israeli actions, particularly in #Gaza.
