It's loosely inspired by a line in Omer Bartov's NYT piece saying Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, but none of this is about Israel or Bartov and I ask that @-replies respect this. tl;dr: there are two separate narratives, one Jewish and one (supposedly) universal, but the Jewish one is *more* generally applicable, for example to understanding modern transphobia, whereas the universal one is so abstract and nonspecific it ends up saying nothing.
