Bluntness is usually a sign of strong character. Its usually a reaction to a past where you/me/someone was too nice or timid and was mistreated. And it shows that you give others the benefit of the doubt. If you were to assume others were bad, then they wouldn't deserve your honesty ; if you give it to them straight, its because you see them as a real person. Or at least that's how I read it.
