one little difference between matrix and discord is that you have to "join" every single "room" (channels on discord) separately - they aren't visible at all after you joined a "space" (server on discord), but once you did, it is basicly the same...
they even have video chats (no idea if they support screen capture for art sessions or so)

but so far it's pretty much comparable...

PLUS! NO 10mb file limit! (no idea where the actual limit is, but it's at least not as low as discords )
