I've never liked the line "race is a social construct". Like yeah - kind of? In the same way that different breeds of cats or dogs or whatever other animal or plant classification is. It does still capture real information about the thing you're looking at though and has utility in describing the natural world in shorthand (i.e. the whole point of classification systems). The classification system you use is more-or-less on the level of axiomatic/theological though, since the kind of information you care about or view as relevant is a qualitative value judgement rather than a quantitative one. Trying to imply "X doesn't exist" from "X is a social construct" doesn't square, because it's essentially the same as saying "I don't believe in X". It doesn't really have any bearing on whether other people should or do believe in X
