If you want someone to work for you, you don't threaten them, stand over their shoulder watching their every move, require professional people to report on their work to someone who has no clue what they do for a living, or fire them because you can't appreciate their value.

And then you don't beg them to come back after they've just been fired, because you found out they do essential work.
