Solo Mining & The Arithmetic of Hope ⚡
As a beginner, I’ve been diving into Solo Mining (Bitaxe Gamma, ~1.2 TH/s). My goal: Not pool pennies, but the full lottery ticket for 3.125 BTC. 🎟️
I fell into the classic "hashrate trap." Here are my insights for anyone considering an upgrade:
1. Linear Logic vs. Economic Reality
"If I quadruple my hashrate (to ~5 TH/s), I quadruple my chance."
Mathematically true. Economically irrelevant.
2. The Scale of the Game
Global hashrate is in the hundreds of Exahash. Whether you compete with 1 TH/s or 5 TH/s:
4x "practically zero" is still "practically zero."
3. The Industrial Dilemma
To have a realistic statistical chance of hitting a block within 10 years, we aren't talking about handheld gadgets. We are talking:
👉 500 TH/s to 1 PH/s
👉 5–7 kW constant load
👉 Monthly power bills in the thousands
The Bottom Line:
Upgrading from 1 to 5 TH/s isn't a "solution," it’s just a more expensive hobby. Real probability requires industrial scale. Anything below is pure passion.
I’m sticking with my tiny machine: Low cost, low complexity, same lottery category. 🧊
Don't chase the hash unless you're building a data center. Just stack sats. 📈
